AEA founder John Kempf describes how physiological changes occur in plants and how farmers can use targeted nutrition and an understanding of hormonal processes to ensure healthy plants throughout the season and beyond harvest. 16:57 good explanation as to why you get the stretch happening when it starts to flower, watched autos on timelapses wondering why they still get that growth spirt and stretch even tho they aren't missing the 6 hours of light a photoperiod plant loses when you change light cycles. Interesting

Thanks for all your very informative lectures on this channel, John. Watching this video one question poped up in my mind. Is cytokinin dominance one of the reasons, why plants are healthy in a soil with a healthy food web? Since soil organisms help to break up compaction layers and root tips can grow throughout the soil. Dr. Elaine Ingham always mentions better nutrient availability, but maybe this aspect also plays a role. What is your opinion on this?

I'm so thankful for the spider's webs that killed the latest bug infection until l thoughtlessly attempt to damage my body and psyche by trying to smoke the sticky stuff as well as the bug poo and eggs and then spend half the day every day picking bits of bug out of my med. I'm not sure if I'm a super successful grower.

I grow tobacco. We have seen many times sudden soil borne disease ( Rhizoctonia fungus or Ralstonia bacteria ) prior to harvest . If we think in hormonal main frame we could say we are not in a situation of auxin dominance because we cut upper buds , including flower ones. So , we do not have auxin source . Remember we need to maintain vegetative growth because we harvest leaves. Besides , we use chemical products to eliminate lateral buds . In the nutritional profile we see calcium deficiency in SAP analisis . How can you explain we have frecuently soil borne disease prior to harvest or we could say inmediatly after we cut flower buds and aply sucker control chemicals?

I'm new to this but it seems like plant senescence is driving a lot of the disease & pest susceptibility (that's how it works in animals, anyway). Senescence was touched on briefly in the talk; I'm trying to find more on the topic. I have a few articles on it but prefer the podcast format.

I'm a tobacco growing idiot but from my simple perspective it sounds like you just poisoned the plant and then took away it's ability to reproduce..

Siletz tomato is pathenocarpic. Auxins is produced in seeds. I have siletz growing in plot next to 4 other type if tomates. The plants are the shortest, while having the most fruits and showed the highest resistance to some disease which caused wilting of the younger leaves, and then death of some plants. Praying that disease is not bacterial wilt. I hate that thing.

Purning the plants will shift from auxin dominance to cytokinin dominance.... or maybe I have this backwards?

If auxin is produced by the seed, does that mean that seedless fruits can’t reach as high brix as seeded fruits?

I've whitnessed when seaweed caused limited root growth due to there being too much lignin or is it alginate you know the stuff it's the clearish gelly that's really abundant in seaweeds in my experience seaweed little it more and if you have more re amend it to dilute the alginate lignin whatever it's called I can't recall it at present .my bad. Although the gelly stuff produced a beatiful composted tilth with oak leaf .very organic but it needs amending properly.

Before I get too into this im going to propose that the rot in fruits and certain plants may actually be beneficial to the plant, ensuring that not all of the crop is perfect, and will end up having some left on the floor as animals will avoid those that bacteria take those seeds and genetic weaknesses survive and perpetuate easier and faster than the resistant ones. In nature atleast. It's always the best stuff that goes first, coincidence? or natural evolution of self preservation instincts

Does promoting cytokinine-dominance lead to reduced photosynthesis since there is less vegetative growth ? (instead of maximizing photosynthesis, which is a core issue in regenerative agriculture as I understand it)

Hi Don Ramón, thank you for your question. To achieve healthy plants, it is necessary to reach a balance between auxin and cytokinin dominance. You may enjoy the podcast episode, Vegetative and Reproductive Nutrients with John Kempf (kzbin.info/www/bejne/oqesgGZ-qcRseLM) which explains in greater detail. - The AEA Team
