Name: Port Jackson Fig Botanical name: ficus rubiginosa Description: The canopy of the Port Jackson fig is broad, domed and pendulous in habit and can reach heights of 20 metres. Their leaves, which are dark green on top and rusty brown underneath, are small compared to the Moreton Bay fig but, like all figs, they have a milky sap. Port Jackson fig fruit is arranged in opposite pairs with no stalk, and it ripens in autumn. Unlike most species, their flower occurs inside the fruit and is pollinated by a species of native wasp which spends most of its life cycle inside the fig. The adult wasp crawls over the fertile flowers cross-pollinating them before escaping from the fig through a briefly open apical pore, which is a hole in the end of the fig. Port Jackson figs naturally grow in crevices of rocks, and examples of these trees growing in their natural habitat can be seen in Queens Park. Their roots help them to anchor to cliff faces and rock outcrops. We planted two figs. One a small leaved fig tree. And Moreton Bay fig tree. Plant way at back. Birds will love them in the future.

What a lovely big tree that Fig Tree is . Great shade , leaves for Compost , but I bet nothing can grow underneath it tho , so you garden has an open working area there. Have you ever considered doing a video 📹 like a Dawn and Dusk type of thing . Your Garden is alive with Bird and Amphibian Life and more . It would be lovely to have something like that . A soundtrack of the WA wildlife . . I remember the time when you done something similar , but with a passing storm . The Wind , thunder and rain 🌧

Thanks Greg... he was a beautiful dog, always knew when I was feeling anxious or tense. Broke my heart when he died, he lost his eye in the weeks before hand... I actually think Banjo was Poisoned... the Vet said he was. Will meet him again in Heaven.

I pruned this tree right back earlier this year mate, before I pruned it, the fig tree branches were nearly touching the ground... it was the best thing I ever did and created so much more light coming into my yard... how ever I do need to prune on my neighbours side, so one day in the near future I will do that mate.
