Recently, during a trip to this project to help provide a bridge for the Palawan people, I was able to visit with Helen. I was excited to reconnect with her, ten years removed from when I was a student missionary here teaching her high school math. We recalled the sadness of losing her father during that time and the many obstacles she's overcome to become a teacher herself. While building the bridge, we encounter some struggles getting supplies into the mountains and there was Helen. She was traveling from house to house, sending any able body person down to the trailhead to help carry. She even accompanied many of her students who joined the major effort of transporting 3,000 pounds of metal to the bridge location. She is a shining light for Christ in her community and is force for good.
