"And Mount Sinai was altogether on a Smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in Fire: and the Smoke thereof ascended as the Smoke of a Furnace, and the whole Mount quaked greatly." Exodus 19:18 KJB

"But I would have you know, that the Head of every Man is Christ; and the Head of the Woman is the Man; and the Head of Christ is GOD. Every Man Praying, or Prophesying, having his Head covered, dishonoureth his Head. But every Woman that Prayeth, or Prophesieth with her Head uncovered dishonoureth her Head: for that is even all one as if she were Shaven. For if the Woman be not covered, let her also be Shorn: but if it be a shame for a Woman to be Shorn or Shaven, let her be covered. For a Man indeed ought not to cover his Head, forasmuch as he is the Image and Glory of GOD: but the Woman is the Glory of the Man. For the Man is not of the Woman; but the Woman of the Man. Neither was the Man created for the Woman; but the Woman for the Man. For this cause ought the Woman to have Power on her Head because of the Angels. Nevertheless, neither is the Man without the Woman, neither the Woman without the Man, in the Lord. For as the Woman is of the Man, even so is the Man also by the Woman; but all Things of GOD. Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a Woman pray unto GOD uncovered? Doth not even Nature itself Teach you, that, if a Man have long Hair, it is a shame unto him? But if a Woman have long Hair, it is a Glory to her: for her Hair is given her for a covering. But if any Man seem to be contentious, we have no such Custom, neither the Churches of GOD." 1 Corinthians 11:3-16 KJB

"Husbands, love your Wives, even as Christ also loved the Church, and gave Himself for it; that He might Sanctify and Cleanse it with the Washing of Water by the Word, that He might present it to Himself a Glorious Church, not having Spot, or Wrinkle, or any such Thing; but that it should be Holy and without Blemish. So ought Men to love their Wives as their own Bodies. He that Loveth his Wife loveth himself." Ephesians 5:25-28 KJB "Wives, submit yourselves unto your own Husbands, as unto the Lord. For the Husband is the Head of the Wife, even as Christ is the Head of the Church: and He is the Saviour of the Body. Therefore as the Church is Subject unto Christ, so let the Wives be to their own Husbands in every Thing." Ephesians 5:22-24 KJB

The tendency of God's people in Bible times to intermarry with the heathens was one major factor in their infidelity to God. As was said, this intermarrying brought confusion into the family and made it difficult, if not impossible, to train children in the fear and admonition of God. The more comitted the couple are to their religious faith, if it's different, the more difficult the marriage is likely to be unless one of them compromises on the point. Areas of significant differences: Day of worship: seventh day versus Sunday or some other day, or no day at all. The child may be required to attend worship service on both Saturday and Sunday. Someone told me they were made to do this as a child and they detested it. They stopped going to church on either day when they reached eighteen. Diet: Vegetarian versus meat-eater. One of the parents may have strict religious convictions about diet. When the child sees the parent eating flesh and licking their finger, they ask for some. Usually the other parent will share the tempting morsel with the child, behind the objecting parent's back. War could develop over this when it's found out. Money. Differences between how money is used could cause a family war especially when times are hard. The tithe-paying spouse is often blamed for spenfing money for nonessentials and may be forced or tempted to be unfaithful to God in this area. Educating the children. The Sabbath keeping parent may desire the children to have a Christian education. You know that costs money--plenty of it. When funds are short, the non-sabbath keeping parent often thinks the other is irresponsible for spending money on Christian education when the child can get a FREE education in the public school or a bit cheaper at some other church school. Entertainment is usually a sore spot for spiritually mixed families, especially when children are involved. Whose standard of entertainment will the children be brought up under is the challenge? When couples are equally yoked in religious faith upon the issues given above a vast area of contention between the couple will not exist. Training the child(ren) will be way more effective as they will be less conflicted in their formative years. The character is formed largely by age seven or so. Child training is a challenge when couples are of the same religious faith; when they are not, it is even more of a challenge. Much, much prayer and patient endurance will be needed.
