great video… I grew up in Feilding. Once in a while I love checking youtube to see who has ventured to my hometown… I returned to NZ in March this year & my 3 days home in Feidling filled my heart

Thanks for the fun tour! I loved the virtual buggy ride!

That buggy ride was great. Filming it was a little difficult we had to have four goes to get it right :-)

@@GeoRick Did you get the final at the courthouse? was it just a formatting of the answer , i see a lot of that
@GeoRick
@GeoRick 3 жыл бұрын
Yes the CO helped us. It was a formatting problem. We had entered it exactly as it was on the sign. She had entered it in a shorter version. We tried about four different ways then asked for help. Met another geocacher who had had the same problem at the courthouse.

That virtual carriage ride was neat. I was going to try it for real for a geochallenge but it didn't happen. You also seem to find great places to eat.

Yes the ride was great and we had fun filming it. Not as easy to do as we had first thought. We took four rides to get the shot we needed :-) We are always on a lookout for places to eat. Planning at least one Cache Walk on eating meat pies and the caches around the pie shops :-)

Beautiful old Victorian? post box. Interestingly, there are thousands of postboxes here in Ireland, including at least one Victorian (marked VR) example close to us. Relics of a time before Irish independence. I often think of photographing all our local examples for posterity. You guys are making me really hungry again lol. It is great that us humans love to research and preserve history and set up lovely museums/gift shops/cafes......!

Yes we love the old postboxes. Not many here though. We had many red telephone boxes still a few around. Telecom decided to paint them in corporate colours but the public outcry saw them painted red again :-)

@@GeoRick Yes, all of our examples (Republic of Ireland) have been painted green (still very much in use 100+ years later) Amazing condition considering.

Thank you for the nice video 🙏 The Coach House Museum is awesome. I love the machine at 5.55. Is it steam powered? Doing what, sawing wood?

Yes a great museum. I believe it is a grinder and automated hacksaw machine. Thanks for commenting.

Feilding is my home town, The Drover at the Sale Yards is my late Uncle Keith Sowerby and the one in Kimbolton Rd by the old Court House is My late Father Huia Sowerby. The NZ Pass Port Office spells it Fielding which is wrong.

Thanks for commenting Noel. Interesting to hear about the links to your family. Strange the Passport Office spells it wrong. I nearly made the same mistake when typing the title of the video.

Nice adv lab. Why was there a Boer War memorial in Fielding then? Did many Fielding men participate?
@GeoRick
@GeoRick 3 жыл бұрын
I don't remember any names on the memorial. I googled it and found that Feilding Council was asked by the Prime Minister Sir Joseph Ward, to put up a memorial to mark the end of the war. Seventy New Zealanders died in the war as the result of action; 25 were accidentally killed; 133 died of disease; wounded numbered 166.
