I have the Mosko Moto Reckless 80L as well, but their quite heavy on its own. Since I am always trying to go lighter, Im now back to my trustworthy Enduristan Blizzard L and carrying only the bare minimum. Thats anyway the best advice I ever got for adventure-motocamping: "Every kilo you save on the bike and luggage is added to your driving fun".

Indeed mosko is heavier than Enduristan. But i like the molly system to add things when needed

Ive been a big proponent of the light is right approach. Using my Giant Loop Coyote on multiple week on BDRs and two multi month trips on TAT and TET. I really enjoy the minimal intrusion on bike manoeuvrability that this approach has and have perfected my system where I can travel for any amount of time in any kind of temperature with only 40 liters of storage in the Coyote bag plus two small 3.5 liters bags for tools and spares. That being said, for my upcoming trip up to the Arctic Ocean, I've got myself a rack and will be using giant loop Round The World panniers with the quick mounting plate and the main reason is convenience. These lightweight systems usually require that you fiddle with straps and pack very carefully. I've done that for months and you get used to it. That being said, the weather will be tricky that far north and I just don't want to play around with all these straps for 45 days and have my buddy who has hard cases wait for me while I take out the rain gear or other gear adjustment. This trip is going to be much more mellow with mostly forest roads, two tracks and pavement, so I won't need to worry too much about keeping the bike as nimble as possible. Therefore, I will try this new system and with 90 liters of storage, I will be able to bring more creature comfort items. I think that if you can afford it, having multiple systems available and using them based on the type of riding that the trip will entail is the ideal solution.

Agree with your approach. I have hard luggage (80l total for side cases), soft luggage with quick disconnect plates (80l for sides bags) a horseshoe style bag (50l total) and an altrider holster. For strictly road travel I run the hard cases, for long off pavement trips with camping I run the soft bags on quick disconnect plates, for minimalist I run the horseshoe bag or altrider hemisphere dry bag holster (or the horseshoe bag with its ‘legs’ in the altrider holster instead of individual dry bags). The latter two I also use on my DRZ. Only one option didn’t work for me for the varied riding/travel modes.

I used to have the full 9 piece aluminium luggage set but now use Kriega OS rackless system. Very adaptable as I camp all year round and it's good to add and subtract whatever I want to take. Having smaller bags makes you think more about what you need rather than taking everything including the kitchen sink in case you need it.

Very interesting look at all the luggage options, I switched from hard panniers years ago when I dropped an Africa Twin with Bumot panniers on my leg, soft panniers for since then. The little backpack looks a very useful option for a bit of food shopping when away on multi day trips.

Thanks Robert a nice video on the various solutions of luggage and transportation of necessities. I too follow the philosophy of less is more, and ai right in pointing out that the more you reduce the weight and bulk the more the price goes up. At the moment I have switched from a touratech aluminum solution to the Mosko backcountry, but the touratechs despite years of honored service I just have them parked in the garage always ready to be reassembled at speed if needed.

Lots of options, Robert. On my Transalp 600, bought used, there was a sturdy luggage rack installed. It was possible to buy a second hand Ortlieb set for little money (20 or 30 Euro). This has worked perfectly for the last 4 years of 30,000 km, some ACTs and TETs. On my newer CRF 300 L I thought long and hard. No rack, but soft luggage with only little space to keep the small Honda light. Mosko Moto was ridiculously expensive, Kriega half the price and rackless Rhinowalk 2x14 l only 25% of the Kriega. Bought in Germany with Germany taxes. I'm quite happy with the Chinese copies of Enduristand Blizzard. The money I saved will be spent on an extra tour - in the end we usually spend all out money ;-) I just prefer an adventure to a decorated Christmas tree. Happy days, Günter/Nürnberg

You got me beat at packing smart & small. I have travelled with the Reckless 40 and the 80, finding the 40 good for a weekend but too small for longer adventures. My favorite choice is the 80 without the aux pockets, adding a small duffel with room left for food "and stuff like that" if I plan to stay off the grid for more than a day. I started with all boxes many years ago - and almost took a leg off. 🤠🏕🔥

Thanks Robert. I have a KTM 890 ADV R, and I have to say I winged it with my gear but it worked out ok! I have Kriega 18L bags with a roll top bag on top for the tent, mattress, pillow etc. I have a separate tool bag on the luggage plate - but it may be a little far back weight-wise. One tip I got early on was to remove the sleeping bag from the compression sack and stuff it in the bag to fill in all the gaps - works a treat! My tank bag is on the larger (funnel) size but it holds all my electronics including the mini 4 drone, batteries and controller! I do like the Mosko gear…

My luggage journey started a couple of years ago. I guess i was trying to save a few dollars and ended up with all my camping gear being too bulky. I did an unsupported Simpson desert crossing here in Australia and I got through with my old gear, but it was very hard work at times, and not enjoyable on a few occasions. I have recently swung over to the Mosko 40 rackless setup and also purchased new ultra lightweight camping gear. This all fits easily into this system but would have been impossible with my old kit. For me, the Reckless 40 is the perfect setup for my KTM 890 R. I really enjoy your channel, thanks mate 🍻🍻

The Kriega US system is also an interesting soft luggage option I think. Not to expensive, rackless and doesn't hang over the wheels. I travelled with one US30 and two US20's on the side. That was plenty of space for a longer trip. I didnt have a tent with me though...

I also started with Enduristan Monsoon soft bags but those kept failing as stitching would come apart . (They gave me back my money after even the replacement luggage failed. So that was great customer service.) Then I went to the Giant Loop Great Basin single bag (which is the best for bringing weight low and forward and for its sturdiness) but stopped using it because it was a bit of a bother to get to items that were in the bottoms of the sides. Then I went to the Mosko Rackless 80 for a trip but found their stitching to come apart in a critical area. Note: that was on the generation before they went to the angle adjustability version, so an older version. They totally disappointed me with their response when I contacted them and I ended up teaching myself to sew/repair luggage and just gave up on that company. Now I have the Adventure Spec Magadan (like the one you showed). But I have not had time to use them yet. Soft luggage is the way to go if you’re going to be in situations where falling is a strong possibility. And thank you for making it a point to talk about the weight’s best location being where the pegs are. Very few people appreciate this fact and thus make their ride less fun by forcing the bike to “wiggle” in the front because the rear end is too heavy (had too much mass) to freely move from side to side at it was designed. Cheers. Uli

Hi Robert, not much to add but didn't the Titanic had more than one chimney 🤔😂 Independent of the type of luggage system I'm a big fan of inner bags to carry my belongings into the tent and all the mud and dust stays outside with the bike. Except you have one of those garage tents where you can park your bike inside. And in order to keep the weight low check the length of the tent poles so that they fit in the side bags/panniers and the top roll keeps light stuff only. I usually ride without a bagpack but I have almost no space for food. So in case I'm going for a longer remote trip I'll need to reconsider my setup. BTW I've done a 18 days Northcape ride with 2x12 L (summer & "winter" gear) plus 52 L camping equipment bag and nowadays I would need even less. Have a good week, Bernd 💙💛🏁🤛🏼 P.S. Rokstraps make a huge difference compared with standard tension straps😉

I like Touratech Extreme 2x20L saddlebags on my T7. Main reason is I can put them very close to footpegs so handling is not affected very much or at all. I believe they can be used without side racks, but usually I put on AS minimal side racks to protect plastics. When needed I have additional 30L drybag on top, but I do not like top bags on passenger seat - it can kick my ass when riding offroad.

Thanks, agreed with you. Luggage depends much on the type of trip you do. My trips are, apart from local trips and some trips of two/three days, usually a big trip once a year for around one month and about 10.000 Km, this big trip is mostly tarmac and a few 10% easy off road, gravel roads. Also I have a strategy, try to travel as much light as possible and plan for a week + 2 days of buffer. If you travel for more than a week you just need to wash and iterate, and so on. My volumen is usually 90 liters (no camping stuff), with a big 54 liters aluminum top box (I know I know) and a 40 liters bag I put in the pillon place. I would love to get the Mosko Reckless 80 liters, but the price is way too high (around 1.000 EUR) for the one big trip I do. I am thinking in the Shad Terra Adventure TR-40, that with a smalll rack costs around 600 EUR. My two cents.

Just take a look at Mosko at the end of the year. There are often reduced prices for clothing or luggage. I paid around €660 for my Reckless 80 V3.0 there. Still a lot of money, but the Reckless system is really good and stable. And with the Gnoblin (order separately!), the system can be installed quickly. For short weekend trips, I simply pack a large roll of luggage with around 40 liters longside on the back seat.

I have some soft saddle bags, but found they flop under and get too close to the rear wheel for my liking, Si I've ordered some racks, which will hold them in place much better, it does make things wider, but the concern is about them getting stuck in the wheel, and there's also the rubbing on the panels that will be eliminated. the idea that I can have clip on soft luggage is appealing as well, but I haven't found exactly what I am looking for there yet Volume, I have 14L a side, but 20 would be better, 30 is way too much, but it's about size, it needs to be long enough for the tent, 200mm wide is plenty, and with the location of the exhaust, it's limited to 250mm high at the most (working this out, that comes to 22.5L per side) but I can't find anything close that would fit in a way that doesn't inhibit the fitting of a top bag. Crash bar bags... finding something there is difficult too, I would love to get me "emergency equipment" out of the main luggage, and this includes tools, first aid kit, recovery gear (in particular aluminium recovery rings, soft shackles and rope, so a bike can be pulled back up a bank/cliff by only 2 people) and this is stuff that could stay on the bike at all times, so having it in the main luggage is not ideal.

Med dina mjuka väskor, använder du ett sido ”rack” som du visar bild på en annan t7 som har det, alltså för att spänna fast väskorna för att förhindra att de studsar omkring. Eller har du dem bara spända fram och bakåt?
@rbaldinger
@rbaldinger 7 күн бұрын
På Mosko-väskorna använder jag inget rack alls. De sitter som svetsade på hojen. Det är mest väskor som hänger rakt ner som behöver lite extra stöd.

Hello Robert, a very good topic and thank you for this video.Now I'm at the moment to purchase a tank bag for my Tenere. On my list are 3 tank bags. Mosko Nomax(most expensive)that Thomas review it, but how I saw it's very big for offroad. Rhinowalk Mechanic (Aliexpress) the cheap copy of the Nomax and the Mosko Gnome that I saw one your video. Could you make a more detailed video about the Gnome and how the position is on tank for offroad? Cheers🍻 and greetings from Timișoara-Romania

Regarding the questions and comments on Mosko Moto tank bags, keep in mind that they all use the same attachment strap set-up, so you can easily choose the right size bag (yes, it’s expensive) for each use case. They also sell spare mounting sets so you can move the bags from bike to bike. Although I have a Perun Moto tail rack on my DesertX, I move any significant load (e.g., Backcountry Duffle) forward, onto the passenger seat, and just use the tail rack’s slots as anchor points. That makes a world of difference in bike handling.

@@bsmukler Thank you , i will definitely choose Mosko because always cheap stuff will cost more. I saw that Mosko tank bag have lot of pockets for better organization than other brands of tank bags. For sure i will pick the Mosko Gnome instead of the Nomax for offroad conditions. And i'm waiting until Mosko will have some discounts in Europe for the Gnome tank bag😁😁😁

About the alleged danger of these aluminum boxes breaking or injuring legs ….. I am genuinely curious: how many of you have actually met someone to whom that has happened or to how many readers here has this actually ever happened?? I have read about one! Could this be more a theoretical danger which gets mentioned by every mot- KZbinr again and again?

Skaffade MSR Freelite 2 tält. Lite långa tältpinnar. Skulle kika efter ett "bikepacking" tält. De har korta pinnar. Sovsäck var någon dunsäck på rea som klarar noll grader. Glömt namnet.

How easy is it to get hold of used mosko bags in Sweden. Any tips on where to look? After the rackless 40L or 80L

Only one drawback to the lightweight rackless system that i have come across, remember that these videos are not only watched by enthusiasts, but by the thieving members of our society, watched a guy just stare at his bike after his Mosco bag containing all his kit had been taken off the bike and thrown into the boot of a car, lost all his gear, he estimated to replace it was going to cost him between £1800 to £2100 , apparently the people who witnessed it said they were so quick taking it off, nobody took the cars reg number, so remember to try and lock it somehow to your frame and not lose your gear. Remember to always ride safely and stay upright.

The more bags, the more crap you take, the more crap you carry up into the hotel and out of it, yes, hotel, as most people talk about camping but only do it for a few nights and mostly in cheap countries, hotel is the easy lazy solution. But you end up carrying your stuff up and down all the time. Think smart. When you want to get on in the morning you do not want to pack a lot. When you arrive after a long day, you don‘t want to unpack a lot. When you sleep you want your stuff next to you, not down on the road where your locked bike is sleeping. Think smart. If you choose to pack a lot, be sure you understand you are choosing to become a unpaid luggage carrier through hotel distances across many wings and floors that make you sweat and fatigue like the whole day riding didn‘t. And if you walk more often your boots will burn your feat in and you sweat nethertheless. Think smart. Whatever your choice, do you want to trade on top packing and unpacking time in addition because you have no plan how to fix and tie your luggage on and fiddle around loops over loops, loose first then tighter, but with so many loops the loose loops don‘t really tighten up, so you have to stop and stop or burn your luggagge and then stop and breath and fix your tie-up. Have a solid plan, solid and quick fix and detach approach. Think smart. Beforehand! My two brands: - for classic bikes: Harro Elefantenboy 25L, Ortlieb Drybag. - for modern bikes: Mosko and Moto ;-) - Straps: 2x Heavy Duty non ratcheting professional tools shop Automotive Luggage straps (always have them for bike pushing rescue. Never buy any on the road stop or in supermarket stores, cheap stretchy crap that is), 2x (Rock-Straps HD), 1x PackNet (not to hold loads, but to keep things in place, while the straps keep it fixed). Lock‘m up: - have 2 heavy duty locks (one with alarm) and a hd chain. „My bike has alarm“ - „yes and tomorrow the bike battery is empty and won‘t start your bike“. Tools: - Carry the absolute minimum of tools for your bike, try them out first. Add wire, tape, rope, bulb, electric tape and cables (for fault finding and fixing), pro-crimper, tie-straps in a compact kit, low down, maybe in a case fixed to the frame.

No matter what System you use, or how much you bring to the camp, there is one things where compromising should definetly stop! And that is the sleeping arrangemnent. You have to have a good sleep in the night. After 8 to 10 hours of riding you are exhausted for shure. Especialy if you ride offroad. Imagine your nightsleep turns out to be torterous! How will your riding be the next day? Not well for shure. That does not mean to spend a Fortune in sleepingbag, sleepingpad or tent. If Budget-Equipment is Fine for you! Great! But it has to be dry, warm and over all comfortable. If you can‘t wait to get into your sleepingbag for the night as much as you Like to ride the next day, you got. the right equipment! I found out the hard way….

Last year I purchased a Haven Tent. This is a new type of hammock tent that, through smart engineering, lets you sleep flat in it. Takes a minute to set up and pack away. I’ve slept in it twice and like it. Sleeping on the ground sucks. (It always rains, it seems.) This hammock tent thing is fantastic. Cheers.

What also sucks - finding a great campsite that doesn't have any trees nearby to set up your hammock. 😂 Somehow I didn't really understand this type of camping (yet) where you limit the places where you spend the night.

If I could only get one, it owould be a tent because it works everywhere. I like to use hammock for the sleeping comfort when I know I always have trees, like in Sweden.
