Great video I have been using pace beads for a long time and it's surprising how accurate you can be with them. Got my first AR next year so I m having to learn a lot and brush up on a lot so thank you for these videos.

No problem, all good. I'm always learning. I used pacer beads for my Mountain Leader assessment. Very precise micro nav required, and pacer beads made it so much easier :)

Can you use a standard digital watch like a casio - using the stopwatch?

Yup, for sure. The most popular ones in AR have been the Suunto Core and Suunto Vector, which have altimeter, barometer, compass and temperature but no GPS. The Casio watches have also been pretty popular. I used a Timex Expedition watch for years - similar function to the Suunto watches. 🙂

Hi Adam Newbie here and I am designated Nav. With all that counting, there must be very little communication in the team? How do you keep up. Looking forward to trying this out.

Hey Kat. It's not an issue as you will only need to use pace counting on tricky CPs, when the weather conditions are challenging or it's night time. In a 5 day race, we might do that a couple of times and maybe not at all. It depends a lot on the course. In the 2021 ARWC, I don't remember using it at all, as there was very little navigation off piste. 🙂 It's a great tool to have in your 'toolkit', if required.
