Update on use of this jacket except from advriding (and daily dog walks). Been using it on my MTB about 90 days in a very rainy autumn, I can just emphasize that this jacket is so versatile due to it's very light weight. A kevlar reinforced jacket isn't bad on an MTB and in traffic. A jacket like this definately has a greater value than just a motorcycle jacket, nothing that I expected before using it but a feature that makes me very happy!

Good review Mattias...it's a good jacket but a bit pricey, although top quality waterproofing. And I would like to see some colours...blues and greens. And i like the layering system, I have done this for years. Apart from trousers...I need fully waterproof trousers! Putting overtrousers over trousers is too much! Cheers 🍻, Steve

Thanks Stephen! I have used this jacket every day for dog walks and bicycling to work and this makes it "less pricey" I think. The only motorcycle gear that I use for any outdoor activity. Thats pretty cool and clever by AS. Next project could be to look for waterproof trousers. There will be a review and comparison on the Mongolia Pants as well.

Great review Mattias. I love this jacket and if it's warm, I keep it tucked away. Because it's so small it's very easy to find space for it. But when wearing it, it feels like a tough outer layer. /Rob

Yes that's the thing Rob, to get the most out of a layering system is to actively use it with altering the layer options.

That gear looks very comfortable Mattias. I just bought a similar system from KLIM. Same idea with a waterproof outer layer. Good gear is always pricey but I find it less expensive than buying cheap gear twice. I also love gear that you can use while on the bike but also camping, hiking, etc. Oh and by the way I forgot to complement you on your choice of video locations. Beautiful lake in the background!

Hi Matthias, I ride the same AS combination for a year now and I'm really happy with the decision I made. And like you I wear the rain jacket not only on the bike as it is really waterproof. I hope AS will soon provide a rain proof pants, which is the missing part today. Safe autumn rides 💙💛🏁🤛🏼, Bernd

Hej and thanks JD, I will compare it to the Basilisk so stay tuned. There is alot of great equipment out there but I must say that this one is a clever design that hits where others have not been yet. Had mine since July 25th 2019. Excellent piece of kit. Has now started to leak through front zipper and shoulders below kevlar padding. Advspec has answered my re-waterproofing request. They anticipate a certain effect from a conventional gore-tex re-waterproofing product, but avoid answering my question regarding machine wash and dry tumbler procedure - which works on gore-tex garment. So basically this garment is disposable after three seasons since the proprietary AS-tex fabrics cannot be revived like gore-tex.

Thanks for this information Bikerdude! I could imagine that this is the case. I'm into the second year of use. I have used it rather tough. Bicycled with it all winter in all weather, every day. Used it for outdoor adventures since it is great for that, I sit on it when sitting on wet or on ground. Works great so far. We need to dig deeper into this and try out re-waterproofing or repelling methods by our own then. I would have hoped that it holds up better than 3 years. I usually have my gear longer than that!

Good review Mattias. I ordered it, then returned it. I couldn't establish an advantage over the Klim Traverse I had since 2018 (Gortex) other than the lack of a hood, which I wouldn't use anyway. I like the direction AS is going, high-quality gear, light, and well thought out. I have their Linesman, Atacama Race jacket + pants, and Baltic Hydrid. All excellent gear. I had some messages with the owner, sounds like many new options coming out in the New Year. Cheers!

Thanks Shayne! Klim makes great gear and there are no point with changing gear that works great or well before it's time because of wear or size 😁. Great discussion as well in Thomas thread. You point out a very nice thing with these brands driven by other advriding fellows in our community, when yiu call them you talk directly to relevant people and get to know more about whats going on and getting personal tips. Gear made by "the real people". It is very interesting to follow these brands and how they are developing right now.

@@stefanwieser2635 It is definitely the case that these smaller brands have some flaws and therefore update their products rather often. That could be seen and they seems cery open with this, my experience is that this is the case for other type of products as well (a side mc gear). As You say we somewhat pay for beeing a part of this, to be fair though, these companys have generous return policies and should be possible f.ex. to get an upgraded verison if available for the product? An idea from my side. Overall i really like these ethusiast brands, products offered by people who really understand details in features that we would appeal too in this community. The guys behind are easy to get in contact with and they are interested in You. This appeals to me at least.

Thanks Thomas! I would not swap to another system that You have allready got into, except if it's time to change for wear etc. But for me it is the way, like it is on any other outdoor clothing. Hey Thomas. I have the Badlands Pro, as well as a layering system using the AS pants/ Baltic Hybrid etc. I only use the Klim gear in shoulder seasons, early Spring and mid-late Fall. It's way too heavy otherwise, the layer system gives you options, especially in warm weather.
@tshansen
@tshansen 3 жыл бұрын
@@bigswederides i don’t find the badland souit to be all that heavy, but yes…. I see you point compared to light weight hiking gear for example. The problem with layering here in Norway is that you can encounter all 4 seasons in one day. And the stopping and adjust the layers is just going backwards in my mind! Remember back when i ride in leather suit 🙈
@Braapncamp
@Braapncamp 3 жыл бұрын
Good discussion guys! It is alot to concider. I started with do it all gear from Rev'it. It did great in bad weather and unlike other popular brands like the BMW rally gear it had the membrane layered in the outer fabric. Other popular brands at the time had it in a inner layer. That made the outer layer heavy when wet and took ages to dry. The gear i had was a pita in hot conditions when riding south those years or even over here in summer. When that gears started to fall apart from wear i started to get a layering system which i just bought new single items when they falled apart from wear. This is what i still do some generations of gear later. I would not go back to a do it all gear set today for the reasons above. I just add or change what i need. Regarding pants I think that these could be a waterproof single layer where you just add or remove the base layer. It is on the upper body where its nice to layer more different. Best option is if you plan the base layer, protective layer and warm layer or not. So you only have to get on or of the outer layer on the ride. That should with planning not needed to be done very often at all. Not even in Bergen 😁 even if the region definately matter in to what extremes one have to deal with. A layering system is only as good as how actively you make changes to the layers, if getting lazy you will either get warm, wet or cold ☝️😁. As I also said I do not change gear just because of the sake, but when you got into changing plans because its time, then it's good to make a checklist for what preferences and prerequisites each one have before making decisions.

@tshansen 3 жыл бұрын
@@Braapncamp This is a really good answer Tjommi…and a good reflection on this whole debate. This is actually no right and wrong in my opinion, it is more what suits your need the most. For me, I’m lazy when it comes to layers and i always take on or of clothes to late. And there are not many day’s every year we have more than 25 degrees where i feel the KLIM can be warm. And if i did more forest riding with lighter bikes, i would consider at is a more valuable option 👍🏻
@MrEtnorb
@MrEtnorb 3 жыл бұрын
That’s a useful review. A big plus is that you can wear this after riding to restaurants/pubs etc and it looks stylish. But you would have to be very careful if ordering on line as you have to work out how much protective gear and warm clothes are needed under it so perhaps it would need to be 2 sizes larger than any plain shell jacket. Like all of this gear, very expensive. £385 + postage to say Australia means around $800 here. The only feature that provides cooling is vents, and lots of them. I would only wear this in cold/wet weather. Still, it’s much lighter than my bike jacket so easy to put on and take off.
@Braapncamp
@Braapncamp 3 жыл бұрын
It seems like AS has figured out the size good, the jacket looks good without protective layer under. I went for my normal size and that was perfect. That was steep, I see that you rather buy something from Aussy then. I agree on vents. I will compare this jacket to my Basilisk in a video within short and I will get into that. This jacket is cold but get warm in hot weather so it really needs to be actively used in a layering system. Happy trails DKW and hope you get closer to full freedom 👌.
