Another great vid. It’s awesome catching perch on light tackle. Do you have bluegill, sunfish or crappie over there across the pond? What a beautiful spot to fish Sir. When I lived in the UK, (I now live in New Zealand), I used to fish the river at Emberton Park in Olney, Buckinghamshire with my ex-father-in-law. We would use lob worms or brandlings. Using a waggler close to the bank, we always had plenty of Perch at least 50% of which required a landing net. My personal best was a beauty of 2lb 2oz. Happy days!

@@onsight2822 Never ask for a location. It's just not done, no matter how tempted you might feel. Do your own homework - google maps is an excellent place to explore possibilities without leaving your fireside. Make a shortlist of possibles, then do some recce visits. That process is sometimes even better fun than a decent day fishing. And when you find somewhere worthwhile, keep it to yourself! Having said that, waters like the one shown here are dangerous places often with dropaways from inches depth to water deep enough to drown a herd of elephants. So best to take a trusted pal or else wear a flotation device. Be safe!

There are two abandoned quarrys down near me. very small one, maybe quarter if an acre in size, people who fished it managed to craft out three fishing peg. Carp in 20lb+ have come out and different fish. There is a 2nd one which is full of rudd, absolutely packed full of rudd, but once you get through the rudd there are some good tench in it, 8lb tench was caught before. "nd one you need the farmers permission to fish though and only two places to fish

I was informed yesterday that the best bait for a really large Perch was a small Perch. If you were dropshotting and had obviously hooked a small fish, the best thing you could do was leave it in the water for a chunk to munch.
@adventurefishinguk

Makes sense, that perch definitely looked like it had been in a tussle with another. If a big one did take a small one on the way in though, I doubt there would be enough exposed hook to hook-up. Perhaps though!

Small perch in the margins or shallows are quite possibly there because the predator grandfathers are in the deeper areas in full daylight. Perch naturally tend towards the deeps when light is strong so I'm surprised you didn't twig about why you were only getting tiddlers - with one exception. Let those small swimbaits sink well down, try progressive counts to vary the depth till you feel the line go slack, which will be either the bottom or maybe the perch of a lifetime. One of those wee ones fished as livebait on or near the bottom might have seen you packing up early from arm-ache caused by serial 2-3lb fish! (Its happened to me when I used to explore all sorts of largely unfished oddments of waters just as you're doing. One time my young brother and me stopped counting when we got to 65 sizeable perch, smallest about 1.25lbs and the biggest a bit short of 3lbs.) And not a single pike, strangely enough.. It was a big shallow water with zillions of perch fry crowding the margins with shoals of hunting biggies pushing them in towards the shoreline. We were using Mepps-minnow spinners. Deadly things, those. Fished as slow as possible. It got too repetitive so eventually we left, pretty well tired out as well as we'd "had enough". Later on that water was hit by perch disease and never seemed to regain its former ability to harbour a massive biomass of big perch...😢 Explore the deeps until whatever time the light weakens, when they'll be more inclined to patrol the margins hunting the wee things you kept catching. So - fish deep or hang around till dusk! Worth another visit maybe? (If you can get a small inflatable there you might explore those vertical shoreline cliff type areas - try jigging the deep water close in - perch love "structure") But if you do be sure to wear a flotation jacket! Tight lines!
@adventurefishinguk
@adventurefishinguk Жыл бұрын
Yeah you're probably right about that! I'd definitely have more luck going at dusk or dawn. its 100% worth another visit, not sure when i'll have the time to make it over there but i'll see what I can do!

I grew up catching abandoned quarry perch. One day I caught 66 perch (66 "catches") in one afternoon from a hole in the weeds just in front of me, all the same size you were catching and mostly all on a single red maggot. I had a float on but I was dropping a maggot in and it was away before the float hit the water. I would watch them suck the maggot in and just lift them out. Several times I would catch one, toss it back and then watch that exact same fish go for the bait and I'd catch the same fish twice in a row. I started taking tally marks around 20 something, I was alone and I told my friends about it and none of them believed me. 'MON THE DEED DUG!
