First of all....I Love, Love the visual display of buttons and other components! Great idea that I am going to steal 😉 lol. Sure love to know where you collected all your cool buttons from. I never find neat looking ones like that. Second, you talked about how you change up the appearance of buttons and flowers and such. I think it would be fun if you did a tutorial on that! And you can include how you made your button molds...just a thought! You may have one already, and I just haven’t looked hard enough maybe. Third, o love you showing soldering! I really want to learn how to do this and would love to see more! What is the difference between using a torch, and using a soldering iron? Is one better en the other? Or easier then the other?

It's super useful! I bought a big bag of metal buttons on etsy and it was a great steal, for sure. I can do all of those videos!! I'm writing them down lol A torch is for precious metals, copper silver and gold; high heat is needed for these. Base metals - nickel, pewter, etc - can be connected with far lower temps. I'm intending a torch solder video soon!

Hi Gayle, I wanted to try soldering but having trouble finding the right products. What kind of solder would adhere to wire jewelry. I use tarnish resistant silver with copper core.

This video is using lead free silver solder...essentially plumber's solder. That's probably the best for a mixed wire.

There are devices commonly called a third hand. Imagine a steel rod about a foot long, bent with a 90 degree angle on one end about a quarter or third of the length and a foot welded on the other end. If you have no way to attach the foot, you could simply use a longer steel rod and bend the foot on opposite end to provide the stability required rather than welding. Of course you need something heavy enough to hold the parts your soldering so consider that when choosing the rod size. This may not be a clear definition/explanation so do a search and you'll find instructions. The point is, you may find this easier to use than a clamp in many situations. Someone asked about stainless steel. Some solders do and some don't. Here is a lower temp solder that works. Harris Stay-Brite. It's a little pricier due to a small amount of silver. And yes, you need to use flux. You can find in kit form w/flux on Amazon or maybe in a local welding supplier. It's plenty strong but I would suggest you try it on practice pieces to make sure the flux wont harm anything your using. Use flux sparingly, solder goes to the flux. I'm not sure what wire you're using! Hobo solder works on base metals.. It will ruin silver and copper,I think.

I'm using craft wire, the silver coloured copper core. Is Hobo solder a brand?

Ha no it's just me being ridiculous - it's not fancy, it's hobo lol. Silver coloured copper core will not likely solder. If you use Silver-filled 10+ wire, it will solder carefully.

Don't touch up the solder all you'll do is cause cracks in the crystal structure causing a brittle joint
