Looks like it needs a bit of tlc. I’d love to work my magic on those buildings. Cheers Juliette.

Juliette, Yes the building on the corner in Knott End was a bank, as you will see from the postcard you posted. It was also the Natwest Bank featured on the TV advert "We will not close the last bank in a village/town", how much fibbing can a large conclomarat tell. They not long after closed Knott End, Poulton's Natwest and Royal bank of Scotland. We still have Cleveleys, but our branch is Garstang (if thats still open).

Anent Michelle's comments about history being lost;- In the late 60's / early 70's I worked in London. I visited a heartbreaking exhibition at the National Gallery. A film on continuous loop was running and it depicted a long series of vignettes of large, landed country houses, being demolished one by one. Families had dwindled and were affected by world wars, unable to pay death duty etcetera. I was staggered by the main statistic in the thrust of the narrative. "Country Seats" were being demolished at the speed of one per week! Beautiful architecture, some palladian mansions; all victims of the swinging ball. I think Sir Mortimer Wheeler had much to do with the exhibition. Mostly the history disappeared with the residences. Very sad.

Nodding here. You see why we do it. To show folk who can’t get out anymore. To record what’s still there If it does get demolished.
