Starting from West Canyon trail is very old information before they built the new bridge on East Canyon Trail across Gold Creek. Starting at Gold Canyon parking lot and taking East Canyon Trail is much shorter and easier.

I keep seeing ppl suggesting the West Canyon all the time and I thought I was the crazy person. Thanks for letting me know I am not alone. I see no reason to take the West Canyon, unless one really wants to visit that side for the first time, maybe?

How do you get there? After the Park entrance will there be a sign for the Gold Canyon parking lot you're talking about? I don't see it labeled on the map

@@nicholaswronski628 You just drive on the road until the end of it. You cross a bridge over Gold Creek and it is right after that. There are 3 big parking lots joined in a row. The trail up to East Canyon road is from the north east corner of the upper parking lot. Just after you enter that trail, you come to a fork. Stay left. You will get to the road and go left and stay on that to the bridge. You have to be careful that you don't miss the little left turn down to the bridge as it is easy to miss. Especially if you are talking, like I was the first time I went there. There are lots of tracks on AllTrails. Any other questions, don't hesitate to ask.

East Canyon is slightly easier, as you miss the technical part around the Gold Creek lookout, but it is exactly the same distance and elevation gain to the junction. I prefer the West Canyon for the viewpoint. If you have large packs, maybe the East Canyon is better, but it would be very minor.

Tent pads are first come first serve. You need just a back country camping pass for Golden Ears you can get on BC parks website.
