Thanks for the photos of the Whangarei Grand Hotel - I stayed there as a boy in the 70s when my grandparents owned it. Memories of sliding down the banisters, getting chased by the scary chef down back stairs, stories of terrible bar room fights!

When you said *"It's an end of era"* as your friends for +2 yrs where leaving maybe never to meet again I suddenly realized the enormity of time and what has happened since the start of the pandemic. It has all been so strange for all of us, yet it has affected us in different ways. Myself I self-isolated for long periods (due to risk), but would have given an arm a leg for being stuck on a boat in a any strange harbor or bay. But then I had the Seadog and could live my pretended-solo-boat-life through his extremely well done videos, life, adventures and experiences. Thanks mate, you helped get me through it.

That strip of water between Kawau and Whangarei (or Tutukaka) can be incredibly frustrating or incredibly exhilarating. We have motored all day in glassy seas, romped through, beam reaching, in quite a swell, and even done the whole trip with zero visibility, in the days where we had a handheld GPS and I had to chart it all the way through. The bonus is you always see dolphins. Safe travels Barry.

New follower. This video's opening of the sun getting low, the very smooth ocean currents, the gentle swaying of the sailing vessel, the sight of the jib set & the mainsail raised, and the gentle sound of the sea lapping the hull as it pushed aside to allow the ship's passage really makes saling extremely romantic. But it's just the ocean lulling you into submission so that it can change to test your seamanship abilities, dashing the romance towards the next swell crashing over the bow.
