Beautiful!!! We camped at Lassen and collected our biggest pine cones there!! 24 inches was our biggest!! I absolutely loved Avenue of the Giants (Redwood Forest) and Founders Forest is the trail left untouched. The worlds tallest tree fell there I believe in 1991? You see uprooted trees just unbelievable! Can't wait for your next video!

Yes, you have to come visit in the summer and see Bumpass Hell, climb Lassen Peak and hike the Kings Creek Trail to the waterfall. Absolutely breathtaking! Also I wish that you could’ve seen it 2 years ago before the Dixie Fire burned 60% of the park. My little ID picture here has always been a little shot from the first snow one year from behind the Kohm Yah-mah-nee Visitor Center.

Great visit and photography, and detailed explanations re sulfur works etc! yeah, I was happy to be wearing covid mask for that, helped reduce the smell :) Very cool tidbit about camping in the parking lot during winter! There are GORGEOUS lakes (Emerald and Helen etc) higher up along hwy 89 thru the park (and Summit farther along), but closed during winter/spring... pretty w/ snow and ice, even in May... note, that portion of hwy 89 has 8000' elevation; I got altitude sickness- so drink more water & be mindful! Bumpass Hell trail was still snowed in and wasn't open previous Memorial Day, so need to visit later in summer... despite it being 103F in Redding at the time..

My friend and I try to go once a year to do a trail in the park. Last year we were going to to Devils Kitchen, but the fires in the area made it not an option. We are going to try to do it this year in June. Check into that hike for when you make it back. Also, wanted to add, Lava Beds NM is about 2 hours north, and it is so much fun doing some of the caves in that park, it's definitely a hidden gem and caving there is an absolute blast!

Enjoy Redwoods SP/NPs! We had great visits there recently too! Make sure to see Lady Bird Johnson trail/loop.. and north in Elk Meadow, do GREAT short Trillium Falls trail!! Amazing trees and nice little falls. Drury Scenic Parkway was pretty side-cut from 101 to see yet more redwoods. Jedediah Smith farther north has some more nice ones as well.. we took short detour to OR border, but was too late to hit Natural Bridges scenic spot, make sure you hit that on the way north! are you also driving bit south to Avenue of the Giants on 101? Tons of great little groves and hikes and trees and stops. On the way back south, are you going thru Ft Bragg & Mendocino and parts of Hwy 1? It is a bit tight/windy road from 101 at Leggett to hwy 1, but SUCH gorgeous scenery south on 1... check out Laguna Pt beach, and south Pt Cabrillo lighthouse. If you go back toward 101, Hwy 128 east thru Navarro River SP is simply gorgeous and even more redwoods, then pretty ranches.

This park is a gem and one of the prime reasons we live in Redding. Sadly much of it was affected by last year's Dixie Fire. Haven't gotten to see some of our favorite places there since, as they closed the Park for the winter as the fire wound down. Fortunately many of the main points of interest should be unaffected, but the stunning views of forests extending out toward Lake Almanor have been lost for a generation or two.

This place is amazing. Some real Yellowstone and Iceland vibes coming from it for obvious reasons! Getting to stay at the parking lot in the park was very cool for you both. I've stayed at the permanent tented campsite in Yosemite (back then it was Curry village, but I think the name has changed) and have done a couple of different cabins in Yellowstone, and being inside the park really is the best as adventures can begin so early. You guys picked a perfect spot for your curry dinner, though it was weird seeing snow on the other side of the lake and Kathryn, you sat in a tank top in the sun. The shot of the goose with its wings out was amazing, and the montage with just the nature sounds was so calming! Easy to get those sounds when you've only come across 10 other people in the park - benefits of shoulder season I guess! 🥳 Just catching up now on your videos as we get a 4 day bank holiday weekend over Easter (so Good Friday and Easter Monday off work for most people) and naturally we took advantage of this.

Yes we got Yellowstone vibes too! We can’t wait to go back to Yellowstone again! The contrast of snow and tshirts and tank tops is always odd to the eyes 😂 Lassen was an amazing place! We hope you had a great holiday!

If you haven't been to Banff in Alberta you need to go. Sooooo many hiking trails. Go to the visitor center in the town of Banff and they have tons of maps with people to help you decide. I recommend the town of Canmore and the drive to the south through a couple provincial parks.

We went to Banff quite a few years ago and LOVED it!

In trip planning mode for our 2023 California, Oregon and Washington road trip (from western PA) and I am taking notes in my rocket book while watching your videos. Much as I did for our last fall trip to South Dakota, Montana, etc.; your hiking tips were so helpful, and, like you, we travel with our dog so we have limits. We intend to be doing the Alaska drive in either 2024 or 2025 (my husband started racing asphalt circle track, winning Rookie of the Year at 60 years old, so our travels are currently shoulder season). Thank you for taking us along, your content is some of the best. Where did you get your National Parks checklist?
@AdventuresofAplusK2 жыл бұрын
The checklist is included in the Kit on this blog post: adventuresofaplusk.com/blog/our-must-have-gear-for-van-life/ We’re so glad we could be helpful! That’s our number one goal! Wow way to go with Rookie of the Year! Impressive!

We were there in early August last year when the Dixie Fire was happening. We were able to do Bumpass Hell and the hike up to the top of Mt. Lassen which were amazing and I highly recommend. However, when we were at the top of Mt. Lassen, we saw the huge plume of smoke from the fire, and a helicopter landed on the top by us with people coming out to set up radio equipment to fight the fire. When we came down a ranger pulled up to us and said we had to leave immediately because the park was being evacuated due to the fire. It stayed closed for months. I'm glad to see that the park still looks beautiful after all of that. When you go back, you have to go in like mid July, just after the snow melts but before all the crazy wildfires.

First, YAY for a new video! We watch EVERY one of your vids and you’re definitely living our dream life! Thank you for letting us travel with you! Second, any chance you could share the backpacks you carried in this video specifically - especially on the Cascade Crags trail? I know you have your packs linked on your site (we use it A LOT) but these ones looked different? Thank you for all you do!!! Happy trails!
