Wise decision to turn around, one thing our Search & Rescue teaches is to not second guess yourself and go with the safest option. What if's can go good (like the weather cleared up) but can also go deadly (like the weather turning for the worse). Good to hear your laugh Adam (at the bad weather) it always brightens the day! 😊

My wife and I visited Colorado about a month ago, for about a week. Loved it. Drove Trail Ridge Road, camped in NW CO, visited Dinosaur NP in Utah, Black Canyon, Ouray and Million Dollar Highway, Mesa Verde NP, Chimney Rock, and Great Sand Dunes NP. Also ate at barbecue at Woody’s Shack in Alamosa. So sad that it already seems like months ago. We enjoy your videos.

We will be at RMNP the first full week of September and we were fortunate to get six nights at Glacier Basin Campground - our third year in a row. I do Milky Way filming and we will be there during a new moon, so I will get some more killer images up Trail Ridge Road. I have spent multiple nights at Mushroom Rock filming. This time I will be filming our van at a couple of the overlooks parking lots with the Milky Way. I have a lot of planned shots for that night up there. Usually, I am alone when filming the MW, but Susie will be in the van safe and sound. She is not thrilled about driving back down Trail Ridge at 2AM, but I rarely have seen another vehicle at that time. Just hoping for a clear night while we are there and I expect we will get one. We love RMNP. Be safe.

Nice! When I went there years ago you didn't need permits that I know of. I did the Trail Ridge Road and it was cold and windy but very nice! We were in Colorado at the end of June. And when we went to RMNP it was also soooo cloudy and rainy. We were a little sad but it was still amazing to be there! Your video still looks great despite the weather. You also had more luck with wildlife than we did! Haha

It sounds like we were there around the same time! It is definitely sad when the weather isn't ideal in mountainous places!

We went driving on trail ridge 2 days after you went. The weather was gloomy also. No sleet but definitely light rain. We started late & entered in the fall river entrance east side. I was also disappointed bc I wanted to make it to Milner Pass to see the Continental divide. We had to turn around after our hike at Rock cut which was also alpine like tundra. The Fog & clouds were so thick you could barely see while driving. I don't know if you stopped at Milner Pass but the Continental divide sign had to be taken down bc people kept stealing it. Any way ,I really enjoyed your video bc I did not make it to the west side of trail ridge. The views are gorgeous. And Ice cream does make it all better. LOL

Milner Pass is where our hike started! Well, the attempt at a hike haha. The sign was up then! It’s definitely a bummer when the weather messes up your plans, we totally feel ya 😭 We hope you still got to see some nice scenery! I think we hiked up to that rock cut with my brothers days later and it was gorgeous!

When I went there last fall, the fires were so bad, I thought it was the great smokies. Seriously, the week after I left, they closed the park because of fires. It was awful. I am so glad they finally got the fires put out and it didn’t burn the whole National park.

@@AdventuresofAplusK well, I got to drive all of trail ridge road while my son, who is in the Air Force, filmed it on GoPro and now I can re-live my drive on my iPad every day, lol. I didn't realise it was the 4th most popular, but given how long we had to stand in line for the bus to bear lake (and then you said at the start it's the most popular area of the park) it makes a lot of sense! Kathryn, is that a new rain mac? It's a stunning colour and you look fab in it! ❤️ That wild life a the start was just too much. I was freaking out over how cool the footage was of the elk scratching it's tiny tail with its antlers, then you guys just pushed me overboard with the mum and child moose!!! The other spotting's that followed were brilliant too. The weather may not have played ball but the animals sure did 😍 I'm sure I've said it before, but wild life spotting's on hikes really are the best as it's the one thing you can never count on, regardless of how many insta photos/KZbin videos etc. you've seen before hand. I had no idea about all of those facts regarding the Trail Ridge Road... I guess that's what happens when you visit suffering from jet lag and high altitude, you just go: 'ooooh pretty' and don't take much more in 🤣 I am very excited for the Sky Pond hike next episode. I remember in my naivety planning what we could do and my thinking was, hike to Bear, Nymph and Dream Lakes, cut across to Lake Haiyaha and see how we're feeling and keep going to Sky Pond if we're up for it. I feel embarrassed even admitting that as I was dead by Lake Haiyaha!!! I remember you saying, you were looking to get the dent on the front of your van fixed whilst up in the RMNP area, I hope that all went smoothly for you both!
@AdventuresofAplusK3 жыл бұрын
Our first trip we stood in that long line for the shuttle too! And yes, it's new...sort of! I got it last winter, but haven't had many chances to wear it (that's a good thing I guess haha!). Thank you! And we freaked out so much about the wildlife. It truly made the day SO special! And that is impressive you tried to do all of that in ONE day! Reminds me of our first visit, we did Bear, Nymph, Dream, Emerald and Mills Lake and it was intense! Did you make it to Sky Pond or stop at Lake Haiyaha? We just did Lake Haiyaha for the first time with my brothers a few days after filming in the park and it was great!
@WhenAdventureKnox3 жыл бұрын
@Adventures of A+K We didn't attempt Sky Pond, we turned back at Lake Haiyaha, but we did muster some strength to pop up to a waterfall - can't quite remember the name of it now! Hi. I have been watching your adventures and wanted to make a suggestion for you to keep in mind…if you ever happen to be in the state of Ohio. Most of Ohio is pretty flat and boring, but Hocking Hills, near Columbus is absolutely stunning! I dont think you would be disappointed. Blessings!🙏🏼

@@AdventuresofAplusK I hope you get a chance to go to Hocking Hills one day! I have joked, with Ohio being so flat in most places, Hocking Hills is Gods gift to Ohio. 😁 It is so unexpected for the region. Also, not sure if you would be able to find an amazing restaurant nearby because it is out in the “boonies”, but Columbus is about an hour drive, where you would have a wide selection of great restaurants. 😋

Several years ago we were staying at Grand Lake Lodge on the west side of the park. This was in June and they told us Trail Ridge road was closed due to snow. I told 'em I was from Michigan and knew how to drive in snow. No dice, you know government types. Anyway, we had to drive all the way around the south and come up on US 40 thru Berthoud Pass When we eventually got to Granby and the lodge we learned they had opened Trail Ridge, what a bummer, but that's the way it goes out there. Great video of the park.

The little pellets are called Grauple., not really hail, not really sleet, but something in between. As I watched the thought that crossed my mind was... "The weather situation was the park's way of saying you need to come back again, and again, and again." Did you happen to go out towards the Fall River Road entrance and possibly see any sheep in the meadow there? Can't wait to see your next adventure, so "Travel Safe."
@AdventuresofAplusK3 жыл бұрын
Ah ok, we called it both because we couldn't really tell. Either way, it was hard, cold, and icy 😊Thankfully we got to explore the park again off camera days later with family, so we were able to make up for some of the weather in this video! No sheep this time!
@brunnie3 жыл бұрын
@@AdventuresofAplusK In all the times we've been to the park.... we've never seen sheep either BUT part of the reason was that we were there in the early afternoon. Rangers have told us that the sheep come down early in the morning and in the evening to graze and water. Glad you got to share part of it with your family and hope you took the time to explore Estes Park a bit too. Travel Safe.
