Here are the steps we are taking everyday, including in these videos: 😷Masks and face coverings. We wear these anytime we are near others outside and especially indoors. If we don’t have a mask on in a video, it’s 99% because there was no one around. ⏰ Exploring early. We normally start at sunrise anyway because of less crowds, but especially so with COVID. We have been starting our days before sunlight so we can limit our interactions. 🧼 Washing and sanitizing our hands, especially after touching anything outside of the van. 🚐 Being in the van 95% of the time when we’re not filming. The adventures we share are a small sliver of our lives. We are staying in the van all day everyday when working and the only time we leave is to do laundry, get gas, or go to the store. 6️⃣ Keeping our distance. We are trying to stay at least 6 ft from others, which truthfully isn’t always possible (and then we make sure we cover our face).

My dad and my stepmother took me camping in South Dakota when I was 9, and it was the big adventure of my childhood. My father passed away in 2020 right when the lockdowns started, and my stepmother passed last night. All I have now are the memories, photographs, and two rocks I got from Mount Rushmore and Mount Crazy Horse.

Blueberry Goat Cheese at Leones is one of their best flavors! Also there is a hike near Deadwood where you can go to the friendship tower. It was a memorial created by Seth Bullock (a businessman on pretty much the entire west side of South Dakota, best known businessman in Deadwood during his time) to commemorate his friendship with President Teddy Rosevelt who founded our National Park System.

Glad you enjoyed the Deadwood area! As a local to the area, I hope you did way more than you showed. There's way more to do than you guys showed, such as when at mount Mariah, you could've gone way up to see Seth Bullock's gravesite, and continued to hike up past the white rock for a phenomenal view. Or gone to friendship tower past The Lodge. There's just so much to do out here, it's mind-blowing. Should you find your way back, you should definitely try Jacobs Brewhouse and Grocer (in Deadwood) for a bite to eat, they just opened up earlier this year, I believe, maybe late last year. Adam likes a little heat, he should try the Texas Twinkies for an appetizer.

Deadwood used to put on a little play called „The Trial of `Jack McCall“ everyday in the summer. It started on Main Street at the #10 Old Style Saloon with an actor in western dress entering the bar and shooting one of the guys sitting at the round table next to the front door. Guy he shot was „Wild Bill“. Of course this was happening in the middle of the tourist season with 90% of the crowds not knowing what was happening. Then there was a „Trial“ with jurors picked from folks passing on the street. (I was one back in 1976). What fun! They were really celebrating the „Days of 76“ as it was the 100th anniversary when I first visited Deadwood. The town had a different vibe back then…it was way before gambling was legalized. And visitors were just the party hardy types. Hope you managed to see Custer State Park and the CrazyHorse Memorial. Cheers

@@AdventuresofAplusK how did you fly drone in Custer State park? Thats authorized zone !!!

The drone footage in this video is from Spearfish Canyon. But for Custer State Park, according to the SD state parks website website, trailhead signage, and Airmap, it's legal to fly in Custer State Park as long as you're not flying in the Black Elk Wilderness (ex: Black Elk Peak is in the wilderness and therefore not allowed). We always fly legally.

Across the street was another haunted hotel although only the ground floor was open as the second and third floors are only open for ghost tours. The hotel I'm taking about is the Fairmont hotel. Ever since I saw ghost adventures halloween special: deadwood city of ghosts. I wanted to stay at the bullock hotel as it was featured in the first half of the special. They also investigated the Fairmont hotel, the original saloon number 10 where Bill hickok was shot and killed. The last place they investigated was the Adam's house. There are two other places in deadwood that are haunted but were not featured in the episode. The Mount moriah cemetery and the Franklin hotel.

I've lived in South Dakota for 32 year. Spent every summer for 20 of those 32 in the Black Hills. And this is the 1st I've heard of the Devils Bathtub. I will definitely have to check it out the next time I'm there.
@AdventuresofAplusK3 жыл бұрын
It’s a really fun spot! Glad we could share something new with you!

If you liked that slide, check out Slide Rock State Park in AZ! It will blow your mind. I’ve never felt water so cold in 100 degree weather!

Hey! Are you guys going to Belle Fourche, SD? 10mins from Spearfish and it is the Center of the Nation : ) has a monument with all the state flags flying, museum, home of The Black Hills Roundup and just a great downtown area!

Aw man, we didn’t! But that sounds really cool! Next time 😄😄

Devil's Bathtub is one of the coolest places to not only visit, but camping. It's unadvertised and the water is cold. At some point someone had built several rock "chairs" around a rock fire pit near the nicest "tub" !! Great times !!
@AdventuresofAplusK3 жыл бұрын
Wow that’s cool about the chairs!

Loving your video's. I discovered you while searching for "Van Life". Your videos get me excited to travel our country (USA) in a Land Yacht. I feel you could get more subscribers it you show a bit more about where you stay and how you utilize your vehicle. Boondocking, camp sites, Walmart... Keep up the hard and good work. Cheers

Thanks Rik! We will be showing where we are staying a bit in our South Dakota series.

Devils Bathtub used to be pretty deep and people would jump in from the cliffs above. At one point someone was injured or killed and they filled the "bathtub" part in until it was too shallow to jump into from above anymore.
@AdventuresofAplusK4 жыл бұрын
Oh gosh, that is scary! I’m not a fan of jumping into water 😬

Oh how fun to slide the waterfall but I couldn't help but think of myself bumping my tailbone. Glad you guys didn't get hurt. Deadwood is so cool. Thanks for the interesting history lesson.
@AdventuresofAplusK4 жыл бұрын
We were VERY nervous about that! Deadwood was a really cool town, we are so glad you enjoyed seeing it!

The reason the Spearfish Falls hike was short is because you only hiked one side of it. If you hike up the road a bit there's another trail that takes you above the falls. Sometimes it's closed though. Come back to South Dakota and make more videos, this state is super underrated.
@AdventuresofAplusK4 жыл бұрын
Ahh good to know! And we totally agree, it’s super underrated!

Wow another awesome place and video. I have to say that I love how you two always get sweet treats without feeling guilty. Although I'm sure you work it off with all your hiking and activities. My husband and I are foodies so when we go on our upcoming road trip we will be on the lookout for some unique sweet treats. Thanks for sharing another adventure!

We used to feel guilty a lot, but trying hard to just enjoy life and be healthy the times we aren’t filming! We love getting to try local food spots when we travel, it’s the best part! 😋

We took our kids to that waterfall slide in the afternoon and it was packed. You have to wait in a line and everyone is standing there watching you. AND the water was still cold, so I think you two were smart going early!

That was our big fear! We are so glad we went early! Good to know it’s cold regardless lol
