Love the video and the honest tips. I am wondering how the flocking does year after year and if you think a flocked tree will store ok over the summer? Our tree will reside in Palm Springs in its original box and it will have to sustain some high temperatures over the summer in our garage. I am wondering how your tree looked this year when you put it up? Thank you!
@MedalsandMagic4 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Julie! Our tree stored really nicely and was in our garage through the hot, summer Georgia heat. Didn’t phase it at all. A bit of the flock did come off when we took the tree out of the box this year but still looks really nice. I’m doing a Christmas Decor tour video soon and will share an up close look of the tree.

On prelit trees do the bulbs all get covered? Would you recommend flocking a tree without lights?
@MedalsandMagic4 жыл бұрын
The bulbs can get covered on pre-lit trees but the flocking easily comes off. It does provide a nice, soft lighting so I did leave the flock on some of the lights on our Garland and wreath. The lights on our tree were already dead so we had to restring our entire tree after flocking which works fine but I actually prefer the pre-lit tree look with the flock.

@MedalsandMagic2 жыл бұрын
I would highly encourage you to be in a ventilated area outside. This stuff is crazy messy. Plus, once you add the water it may stick to your carpet, tile, or whatever flooring you have in your basement.

I think spray painting it white lightly on the inside of the branches would’ve helped and then using Tak or any other type of sticky adhesive spray, let that sick for a couple of minutes & then put the flocking material on the tree & then misting it lightly with some water and then wait a little while, & spray some more adhesive ,put the flocking material on the tree again as heavy as you would like .I think it would’ve stuck a whole lot better with a spray adhesive , laying ,the tree to the side not all the way on the floor or ground . have something to prop it on turn it as you flock The tree, if you have help someone can hold it and turn it if not this would help you turn it and continue to flock . I’ve just been watching a lot of flocking videos .the spray adhesive seem to be more powerful adhesive than the one that they add to the flocking material , then getting glitter because there’s just not enough in the box of flocking powder .that would make it sparkle that much more ; but these are just my opinions and that’s all that they are is opinions everybody can do it their own way whatever floats your boat…..

It is a little messy but even the store bought ones leave a little flocking dust while taking it out and putting it away. It comes up easy with a vacuum. Hope that is helpful. 😊

How much of it came off when you were putting the tree away? Was that process messy? Or your tree was just 5 pounds heavier? :)) I'm thinking about doing this, but I'm afraid it will cause more trouble than it's worth.
@MedalsandMagic4 жыл бұрын
It was quite the mess when we put it away but was very easy to clean up. Tree didn’t seem to be significantly heavier. As long as the tree flock is sprayed thoroughly after the powder is adhered to the branches, and dried completely than I feel you will be okay. There is always a bit of a mess when it comes to flock but it won’t hurt anything and is easy to clean with a vacuum. Good luck! I promise it’s worth it.

I have pets indoors,so is the flocking powder safe for pets? And another question, does a finished flocked project have an odor? I know when I've spray painted florals, using indoor spray paint, it still has an odor.
@MedalsandMagic3 жыл бұрын
Flocking powder is made of cellulose and is safe for pets and humans. HOWEVER, I highly encourage wearing a mask outdoors while applying the powder so you are not inhaling it. Once it dries, it is safe for everyone. The powder doesn't have an odor at all.

Help. Do I flock before I put lights on my tree or after the lights are on?
@MedalsandMagic4 жыл бұрын
If you are stringing the lights yourself (not a prelit tree) then I recommend flocking the tree first and then putting up the lights once the flock has dried. Good luck!

Do you think adding elmers glue to the water would help adherence?

I have never flocked a tree before. We get a real tree, so that is what I would be flocking. Will this ruin my Christmas lights or my ornaments? Will it make my lights and ornaments more messy? We got new lights last year and I really want to preserve them and keep them nice.
@MedalsandMagic4 жыл бұрын
Hi Lindsey! Great question! We flocked our tree and then strung the lights to the tree after the flocking dried. Our lights weren’t impacted at all and were still in great shape at the end of the season. There may be some flock dusting on them but that easily comes off with a damp cloth. Hope that helps! Good luck flocking a real tree. I would love to hear how it goes! 😃

@MedalsandMagic3 жыл бұрын
I'll be honest, sometimes it is easier to just buy a tree. However, if you already have one that needs some TLC, this is a very easy, and more affordable way to put some new life into your existing tree. 😊

Thank you for this video! I really really want to flock my tree this year I definitely don’t want to purchase another Christmas tree. My only concern is that my tree is already comes with Christmas lights attached to it, and I really don’t want to mess them up when I spray the tree with water help?😬😫
@MedalsandMagic4 жыл бұрын
I understand your concern. To flock the tree you're using a misting spray from a spray bottle and as long as you allow the tree to dry properly, you should be fine and the lights should not be damaged. In fact I find the flocking gives the lights a beautiful soft touch which enhances the look. Be sure the lights on your tree are rated indoor/outdoor, not plugged in and let the tree dry fully. Good luck! It's a really great process and will completely revive your tree!

I happened upon this video because I looked it up after reading on a pet site that a woman lost two of her cats that climbed up the Christmas tree that she flocked. So if you have cats, I do not suggest doing this to your tree, because it is fatal to a cat.
