Don't overuse checkpoints unless you're making an easy level, They ruin the challenge if there are too many.

I agree with most of what you said, apart from the "make easier levels" part. I think people really suffer from a major skill issue and all those "platformer demons" are supposed to be 5-7 stars, but for some reason they are 10 moons, which makes me question my own skill issue. "Regular" demon levels aren't supposed to take me 10 minutes to beat, so why do platformer demons do? I really don't understand the whole "plat levels that take you 10 minutes are demons" thing

I agree that platformer levels are easier than normal levels, but I think it's okay to rate them in a different way now, especially with the new detailed demon count ingame

Taking inspiration from the tower is definitely the best tip, robtop has by far the most experience with platformer mode

these are really good thoughts, and I found these in every level (almost), plus a bit more. eg, putting rising lava or some chase/speedrun in a level that is not themed close to that, like in 'the spire' great video!

For the people who are complaining about mini robot and other stuff. For the mini robot part. While it is true that mini robot is quite a bit of a problem in the community because it's being used in extremes. And not anything else. But what about all the hazards? You need mini robot or sometimes big robot to even get past it. That's why mini robot is used in extremes. people are using it for frame perfects that aren't even possible for the cube. Take the tower xxll for example. It uses mini robot. There's a lot of timings that aren't even possible for the cube in the tower xxll. Or here is a different game mode. it was an extreme or insane demon if i remember correctly. It's called the jetpack trials. obviously uses jetpack mode. Now take how to platformer for example. It uses all game modes and reuses them again for other stuff. For the checkpoints. It's obviously not spammed much in extremes. Since it will make it a bit too easy. Of course you'd want to have pleasant gameplay in extremes. But the reason why it isn't spammed much is for harder gameplay and hard work. Obviously extremes take hard work and patience to even complete and the mental health. Just giving checkpoints every few jumps wouldn't even give them much harder gameplay and wouldn't make them do much hard work. So that's why checkpoints aren't being spammed much in extremes.

To be fair, the only issue that I've seen with platformer levels so far is the jankiness of the gameplay and blown out tediousness of some the levels. Basically, they'd either make playing the level it self a chore, or collecting coins a chore. Creators have a good sense of decoration [mostly...] and they have good concepts for levels. Unless we exclude people making clones of Terraria bossfights [which DO NOT play well] and other gimmicky levels, like the The World Hardest Game recreation, which is straight shit. There's a clear disconncect between having great gameplay and great decoration.

Something that is really useful for platformer levels where you have to backtrack a lot, is setting the checkpoints to multi activate so it can be used more then once.

9:28 the actual reason for that is because easy levels are EXTREMELY easy, most in you can BARELY die in, unlike classic easy levels, this is ordinary within platformers, the levels are easier than their rating, the easy levels sound auto, the medium sound easy, the hard sound medium, and so on. people usually go for harder or hard because those are the simplest and most fun ratings, along with demons, apparently insanes are unenjoyable and easy/medium are way too easy to be fun or challenging. but anyways now you know ;)

I hate most of the gamemodes in platformer mode. The cube is fine, but the jetpack is terrible. Controls are janky, it falls too fast and is an awful gamemode to play on mobile with. The ball sections feel like precision levels, and the spider has the same problem too. UFO is used mostly well but some sections can be HORRIBLY designed with it. The robot is horrible. It stops too quickly, taking your time jumping over spikes is absolutely impossible, and controls are janky too. Most gamemodes are fine, but just used really badly, especially considering mobile controls.
