Advocacy Tactics: Knowing your Audience
Empirical evidence consistently fails to support sex offender laws and such laws have been referred to as “crime control theater.” Yet they have tended to grow in scope and severity over the past three decades. In this workshop, you will learn about some concepts in psychology that can help explain why misinformation can endure and why those with the power to create rational sex offender laws fail to do so. You will learn about some barriers to persuasion and how we may work around them by knowing our audience. After the presentation, the floor will be open to questions and sharing relevant experiences.
