Michael Singer said just the fact that you realize your mind is racing is a form of mediation . Paraphrasing ❤️✌️

It's like just be ok with the minds idiocy, it's non stop chatter, it's nastiness, it's frivolousness, it,s annoying crap; be ok and then beautiful silence just happens, addictive peaceful loving silence. I surrender this nut-case mind to you who loves me more than I can ever imagine

“You are not thinking, you are being thought .” “People don’t get their minds to quiet down because they figure out how to make it quiet.. but because they completely fail at all their attempts to quiet the mind.” Ahhhh this helps me drop so much self blame and judgement on my grumpy thoughts today. Thanks Adyashanti, I am so grateful for your being in the world sharing love and wisdom.

In practice I have been able to "train" my mind not to identify with the mental chatter by not getting onboard any particular thought and extending it over time. If that happens, and the thought becomes a "hot topic" it's almost comical to see the insane "solutions" it comes up with which can erupt in a physical form with insane doing. In those cases, I get active in researching (usually Google) some of those solutions. When my working mind points out all the flaws in the argument, the chatter kind of slinks away in embarrassment and my brain has learned something.

You can't stop the mental chatter. You can only reduce it by 70 percent if you rest your eyes. And pause it for some time if you expand into peripheral vision. However, with the mastery of mantrayana, you can eventually gain the ability to start and pause the mental chatter at will.

You see ripples in a lake. You get in and start trying to bang them down to flatness, guess what happens? More disturbance. Just stay out and keep watching, the ripples will quiet down by themselves.
