Dont trust on a anime, the civic was more famous on the Shutoko Expressway, it was the most important car for kanjozokus, they was usually driving the kanjo loop on osaka or the c1 in tokyo, the most dangerous loops for the most dangerous highway and the stetic of the cars is inpired on bosozoku's bikes, it wasnt usual to see an ae86 and a civic racing on a touge

There's a video on KZbin of the whole race, and someone commented that the 86 is racing in a class higher than the Civic, so both of them were 1st place of their respective class during the race and are not really competing with one another, that's why the 86 is always faster especially in the straight, so the fact that the Civic can keep up and even do overtakes is amazing.

Honestly ... regardless who won ... both these drivers are real fucking driver and earned my respect... they both showed respect to eachother and their cars sure they touched once or maybe even twice ... id gladly pay for a new bumper to have experienced that kind of heated battle ... you know they both got out of their cars afterwards shaking with adrenaline and thanked eachother for the battle that comes only a few times in our more average lives.
