Something that should be pointed out is that the Vanguard's are all extremely likely to become go-to meta fighters once Engineering releases. They are in the unique position of being the only fighters in the game with purely internal components. This means a prepared pair can repair their shop without EVA, including while in combat.

Purely internal AND redundancy involved. Literally have double of everything despite not needing it in all cases. It also has range and internal living which should be useful in the future

I'll buy them in game thanks. Can't believe the prices of certain ships in game. When in a few hours of ERT looting you can buy most of them.

The ERT looting is gonna get nerfed mate making millions an hour is not normal and always gets nerfed.

Yes, they are cheap now in-game but don't count on them being cheap when the game comes out. That being said, yes buy these in-game.

I got the Harbinger as I always like bombers. You forgot to mention that the Harby has 2 x S3 turret whereas all the others have 2 x S2 so that is a nice upgrade if you have a mate with you. Sadly to keep selling ships CIG needs to keep making them better and stronger which leaves the older military ships behind. Agree the vanguards need a bit more hull, at least 1 more S2 shield, and a bit more damage output.

I really want 2 more Vanguard variants. A bounty hunter and Cargo variant. The bounty hunter could be setup like the Avenger Stalker. With the new bounty hunter game play coming it seems like a no brainer. It would also pay for the updates to the Vanguard.

I’d love a bounty Hunter variant. Would replace my Sentinel instantly, especially if it had a sleek black paint job.

The thing is that Armor isn't physicalized and isn't the game yet because they're wasting time on Master Mode. When it does, this is going to be the earliest and smallest Armor Tanker one can get their hands on and it will laugh at fighter swarms in a smaller weight class then it. If you're in a light fighter, 1v1 a Vanguard, and you're not packing ballistic cannons or S2 missiles minimum, YOU'RE GOING TO LOSE. That said, armor as a mechanic for some reason isn't being prioritized despite the need for balance around it as part of the combat dynamic. So half our defenses aren't even in game and would be absolute game changers if they were. I imagine if they had ACTUAL armor to offset the low shield and hull, your scores would be VERY different.

This sounds fairly accurate. Make the Vanguard series tougher and my scores definitely go up.

Their priority seems to be shoving the SQ42 features that need testing into the PU, which while understandable still leaves us waiting more years for promised features, let alone any semblance of stable balance.

I feel this really hits accurately. When I'm doing bounties, I stopped taking my Warden out and actually take the Avenger Titan instead. Granted it sucks in atmosphere, but I die far less often and it has cargo.

I love the vanguard I remover being 16 in high school looking at this ship damn well knowing I couldn’t afford it much less a computer to run but now I own one it’s a weird almost serial feeling

I have a hard time rating the vanguard series. As is, they are meh. If I consider CIG stated (w/the Zues I think) that ships will have components altered on many ships and we do not have the armor systems in game yet. I have to wait until that is done for an honest rating. As for looks, I love the look of the ship. It would be nice to see all of them has 2 to 4 scu internal storage.

My org actually uses the Hoplite as a primary drop ship as our marine squads are 6 men each and we usually go in with 2 or 3. Allows us to get in fast and low and then provide CAS or transition over to help the fighter division gain air superiority. Harbinger has the same number of Torps as the dedicated carrier fighter bomber , the Gladiator.

Hoplite isn't a bad ship, it's just massively overpriced for what you get. I'm glad your org has a solid use for it. The Harbinger is definitely the one I would pick out of the bunch but as you said your org needs the drop ship.

The vanguards are pretty solid currently, and I imagine will continue to be. My only gripe and reason I never picked one up myself is the Harbinger is somehow more sluggish than an 890J. I'm sure your aware, but having someone on the turret brings them from a mid-tier ship to second only to the meta's. Atleast for fighter combat.

As a dropship pilot, Im almost always in a Hoplite. I love the large weapon on the front lets me take out turrets and I swapped the ballistic small nose guns for repeaters so I can use them to sweep the landing zone and kill infantry.

It's not that the Hoplite is a bad ship it's just poorly priced and there are better drop ships but it has a purpose. All ships do.

On my vanguard harbinger the turret glass is all blurry. Any known way to fix this? It’s the same in arena commander for my friend and me.

Unfortunately that is a known BUG CIG has yet to fix for months. I became so frustrated I sold mine.

So I had this as well on my Warden, however I recently upgraded all my components to Grade A Military and the problem seems to have disappeared. I want to check again just to be 100% sure but yeah, no more blurry turret since I played last. I did also spawn it a Grim Hex so not sure if that is a factor or not as well. *Edit* I just home and tested and the turret is blurry again...le sigh. Not sure if it may of been the server I was on or some unique set of circumstance but I will try my best to replicate it.

After reading the announcement and Q&A I wasn't as excited about it but it's from 2015 so if they want me to get up for it then they need to update it. They did a video a while back but even thats dated.

@@billionaireninjaslast video about modularity was late 2023 and the Retaliator is the first one up to get it. After that they will move down the list of ships like the Avenger and so on.

CitizenCon. It’s why the Retaliator is on the list of 10 ships to be delivered, but we already have it. They are adding modularity. WHICH MEANS…. We are supposed to have it by Q2 which is when all these ships are supposed to be out. Including that gorgeous Mirai Fury XL. Mmmmmmm…..

I really want to love vanguards, but it is beaten to the ground by F8c in terms of almost every practical aspects: durability, maneuverability, speed, even quantum mileage(for having larger size drive) and maybe firepower, while being almost pointlessly larger. Stupid balancing.

The Vanguard got nerfed into the ground back in 3.8. Because it the meta.

Hopefully they go back and fix the issues. The Vanguards may gain a single or two scu cargo on the Warden like the redeemer. And all the guns maybe resized or adjusted.

the vanguard is doggy doo doo because the current flight model is doggy doo doo. its also gonna need some tuning and changes to how it survives the swarm of light fighters, a crewed heavy fighter shouldnt lose to a single pilot in a gladius

I think we differ on our thought process about fighters. I think a skilled pilot should always have a chance against unskilled pilots regardless of what they're fighting. That's how you get those heroic moments that make people go holy crap! That being said it should be extremely difficult and maybe happen 1 percent of the time.

If you have even the slightest modicum of skill a Vanguard of any series with someone on the turret will never lose to any light fighter in the game, and almost all medium fighters.

Nah. The real reason these suck is because the nose guns are bespoke, and they are all entry-level in terms of quality. Later on, people are gonna be upgrading their guns, but you'll never be able to upgrade your nose guns.

@billionaireninjas If they changed those guns, they'd be too good in the early game. Getting top-quality guns back from insurance will be too good. Gotta remember that the weapons that are in-game right now are supposed to be pretty low-tier weapons. The only way I could think to fix this is if they added subcomponents to weapons, and these Vanguard guns had more slots for those. That way, if you invest a lot, you could catch up in quality to higher-end guns, but by default, it's on-par with the other low-level guns. But AFAIK, that's not what in the plans right now.

The bespoke weapons are betwen 10-20% more powerful than their normal equivalents and you get 4 of them boresight, so they're no convergence issues.
