Before this battle Aegon and Rhaena actually snuck into Kings Landing so Aegon could claim his fathers dragon Quicksilver, and Rhaena could get her dragon Dreamfyre back. They had been traveling without dragons on their Royal Progress due to Aenys fearing his son would look unmanly if he rode a horse while Rhaena rode Dreamfyre. That’s how the faith besieged them so easily. Then they went to the Westerlands to try and rally support for Aegon but few great lords were willing to back him officially without at least one victory against Maegor who was a proven warrior with both Targaryen swords and Balerions rider. Maegor brutally denied him that chance before his rebellion could even really start.

If Aenys simply allowed Maegor and Vysenia to fight against the faith immediately instead of sending Maegor in exile, nothing of this would have ever happened. He thankfully didn't take after his father. People say Maegor saved the dynasty but he destroyed the realms trust in the Targaryen's, raped, murdered children and family, (sometimes they were one and the same) destroyed houses that literally did nothing like Harroway and ruled through fear. There was a reason so many flocked to Jaehaerys, he sowed the seeds of dissent by being a terrible king. Aegon didn't take after his father anyway and was more martial like his grandfather and at least in his youth seemed to lack Maegor's vices.

This was all because of Aenys mind you and his refusal to do anything and also not honouring aegons his fathers wishes I’m sure aegon stated to the faith that the next generation wouldn’t marry sister and brother again aegon and his sisters were a special case but that was it. Visenya begged him to do something even offering herself to stop the faith even at her age but again he said no.

@Scully818 I wouldn't say Jaehaerys was a terrible father. Aemon, Baelon, Alyssa, and Vaegon turned out pretty good. Granted, 3 of them didn't have a happy ending, but still. I also wouldn't call him sexist because something House of the Dragon doesn't really talk about is how both sides were already gathering armies to fight. No matter who Jaehaerys picked, a war would've broken out. The Great Council was the best solution because they couldn't fight against the majority vote. Lastly, he managed the dragons pretty well, only he his wife and 3 eldest children were allowed to be dragonriders. After he died, basically everyone who was a targaryen could ride dragons, and that obviously turned into a massive problem. Edit: Honestly, looking back, it was only Saera that gave Jaeharys a massive amount of trouble. She was just far too wild. All of his other kids turned out decent. The ones that lived to adulthood at least. A few died when they were infants, and 1 daughter (Daenarys) died when she was like 4 (she was 7) due to sickness. Also, what the heck do you mean gave the faith too much power? The faith militant stayed banned, so the faith couldn't bring up an army. His dealings with the faith also gave the targaryens special privileges. Also, the Andels already had a lot of power long before the Targaryens showed up

Ya, that would only work if maegor is ignorant of it or is dumb and lets it happen, you have to remember this is the balerion at the peak of its power, as large as vhagar(perhaps larger) was at the dance, without the massive scar and more than 7 decades younger, all it would take maegor is simply to order balerion to turn it's head slightly to a certain degree and unleash it flames and boom she along with her brother would be gone and that is if rhaena has that much time because the battle above the gods eye didn't even last that long and most of the battle was basically aegon desperately trying to flee for his life before he died.
