The music you heard was called Lima written by my Lyre teacher Lina Palera.
It is from her book called Ancient Greek Modes available from Seikilo.
The modes are emotions and this is the Hypodorios or Aeolian Mode and is often used in deep contemplation and can be used to bring sadness out of you. This is a modern song made using the scale A to A.

I lost my Dad and almost paid more attention to his death than his life. I'm finally healing. Please allow yourself to fully grieve, forgive of needed, recognize what your angry about; but most of all recognize how that person benefited your life . Even if it was to just teach you how to press a gas pedal. I spent 10 years in deep grief. Wish I knew what I do now. I will Celebrate my loved ones lives and not their death. Virtual hugs, tears, and kisses, Mi

welcome back!!! this vid's just what i needed to sleep. the crying thing is so true and nice. i'm not a woman, but i Am high functioning autistic, and one of my Things is pretty easily crying over anything even if i don't actually feel very emotionally strongly in the moment. i used to hate it and get humiliated because it can make me seem overemotional when i'm not, but i've lately come to terms with it and just accepted that if i let it happen without shaming myself i end up feeling so much better. have been letting myself cry more the last year or so and it's done a lot of good for my mental wellbeing, tbh. crying can be really nice once you accept that it doesn't always have to be during times of sadness or stress. sometimes it's just as cathartic to have a happy cry, or just cry because you find something pretty in this world. regardless of gender or age it's nice to have that release.

Change is difficult. Even animals have to go through it. An eagle has a choice to die or break its beak off, then wait approx 50 days for it to grow back, just to rip it's claws off, and when they grow back, they pull all their old tattered feathers out for new ones to come in and start afresh. It's torturous but survivable. I know your change is difficult but make a goal to do everyday, make your bed, and then make another goal in 1 month to add something to your life, make a healthy smoothie daily, then in another 30 days do chair yoga or jacobsons relaxation techniques everyday and then set a goal for the new you with a longer timelimit than a day to complete the task like a class or webinar or challenge. Blessings and hope I didn't overstep any boundaries. Not my intention. Just sharing my wisdom.

We are the musical instruments of life, What melody do we choose to play today? May it be calming, exciting or sharpening, All experiences bring their own frequencies and pitches, Music plays endlessly in the heart, Can we let it flow seamlessly? Fact Check: The Aeolian Mode, while ancient, is not special in any such way. You have listened to probably tens of thousands of songs or jingles in the Aeolian (or natural minor) mode. For example: All Along The Watchtower, Californication, Street Spirit, Losing My Religion, Ain't No Sunshine, In The Air Tonight, and so many more (idontwannabeyouanymore by Billie Eilish to name a very popular recent one). In fact, the Aeolian Mode is literally *the most popular* mode to write *any* song in. Likewise, it is not actually as ancient as all that. While it is definitely ancient from a western classical perspective, it is incredibly erroneous to claim that Ancient Greek music was written in the Aeolian mode, not only is that impossible (they tuned in a manner that would not allow such chordal relationships to exist as we know them) but they had their own theory of music built around the harmonic sequence and not the equally tempered system we have today. Jacob Collier's Sleeping On My Dreams is closer to the harmonic system used by the Ancient Greeks then this music played here was. The lyre is simply more *tonally* accurate (they did not have electronic synthesizers in Mycenaean Greece). To claim such, especially when one is not of Greek heritage, would be akin to me claiming a major scale was some ancient spiritual mode derived from African Voudon traditions as a Japanese woman. This is not to say that the music is bad, it is not, only that the claims of the harmonic system being some ancient spiritual truth are both evidentially false but also culturally appropriative.
@Reikidreams911
@Reikidreams911 Ай бұрын
Well clearly you have studied the ancient modes more than the Greek Luther’s who made the instrument and the Greek teachers who are teaching us the instrument, however you neglected to mention the Aoelian’s correct name Hypodorios mode. The Aeolian is kind of a slang name which came later. Of course we have heard lots of music in Hypodorios mode because it’s sad and musicians like to make sad songs and music (as we know it in the west) has grown out of what the musicians made before, we listen and then try to improve and add things on and music is built up that way. This is probably the most popular to write music for because it has no flats or sharps in it. Instead of dissing the ancient music I suggest you read to Plato’s Republic Book 3 as a good starting point and let those of us who are interested in history and music enjoy it with out getting bogged down k the “nitty gritty”. Thank you
@brophwyd
@brophwyd Ай бұрын
@@Reikidreams911 the "correct" name is the Aeolian mode in the English language. Hypodorion mode is a term from Greek that does properly exist in the English language. It would be like trying to say "I have a cat" and you saying "no, that's un gato" the words are semantically equivalent. This is an important point too because you try using your knowledge of the greek terms for equivalent modes. They are not however *functional* equivalencies. They are *semantic* equivalencies. They (are commonly believed to) both refer to the sixth mode of a given scale. Oh, btw I should clarify that I currently hold a degree in Anthropology and wrote an entire 250 page research paper on the topic of music theory and modes in various cultures and how we've independently come up with the same ideas thousands of times. So yes, I probably am more knowledgeable than lyre teachers and makers. Having expertise at *playing* and *making* an instrument is not proof of their knowledge of *history.* Though it is generally true that makers and musicians tend to have a grasp on at least the entry level historical knowledge of *their instrument* and most professionally educated musicians have a passing knowledge in the history of Western harmony as well. The part about them being *believed to* refer to the same modal step in a scale is important though. We do not have any complete surviving works of ancient greek musical notation at all. We have fragments and a few textual works talking about music. We have some works describing how their harmonic system *felt* but we have no surviving evidence of a *complete scale.* We, using Pythagoras along with those fragments and texts, have what we believe to be a fairly accurate idea of what their scales looked like as notated in our system. But that's all it is. A very highly educated GUESS. Now, should that guess be correct it is absolutely true that the Aeolian mode is not a tonal equivalence to the Hypodorion. It would be physically impossible (and I mean physically quite literally, the physics of sound specifically). They just wouldn't have the correct resonant relationships to be such. There's a reason we don't consider recreated ancient Greek scales using Pythagorean tuning to be the same as our modern scales. They are not functionally equivalent even if, for example, we are to call the first scale degree the Ionian mode. Sure, we could do that and it would be semantically equivalent to what we in the west know. But it would not be *functionally* the same scale or tonal relationships. And I can tell that you're not using a lyre tuned using Pythagorean tuning. Meaning it's tuned to our *modern* system. I have absolutely nothing against the music. The music is fairly good. I take issue with the appropriation of other cultures to make claims of spiritual truth. Idk maybe it's because the west has thoroughly stolen eastern cultures (especially Buddhism and Shinto) that I'm a little more unwilling to let these things slide when it happens to other cultures. It doesn't help that I'm probably one of the few people who would have found this video and had sufficient knowledge on the subject given I both believe in 冷気 (I mean, it was literally founded by a 修験道の信徒, though belief in it's validity is increasingly waning in recent generations).... I'm assuming you can read Japanese if you practice reiki btw. If you can't (and again, I'm assuming you can, our language is not nearly as complicated as English) you should really think about how you came to be an authority on a Japanese cultural practice when you cannot even read our language. Also, the ancient Greeks didn't consider the Hypodorion "sad" at all. It was considered "soft and gentle" and at times "wistful" (not sure I wholly agree that the natural minor is very wistful tbh) and there are examples of it being used for ostensibly cheerful songs (by using dominants and augmented chords).

@@brophwyd tl;dr

@brophwyd Ай бұрын
@@duckalot the tl;dr is that the Aeolian Mode is simply the most common musical scale to write anything in when talking about Western harmony. It definitely did likely evolve from Greek music theory (Pythagoras was sort of the founder of western music theory) but it's never been something magical or spiritual. At best we can claim the Greeks believed certain scales just sounded sad or gentle or happy etc. which, like yeah.... that's how music works.
