A great little number! That little cuckoo sound when he lifts his hat - I've said it before and I'll say it again, George Mitchell was a genius. This is Les Rawlings with, I think, Dorothy Ogden, a Television Topper who married George. She was his second wife and half his age, but that's okay. Age is just a number.
@annoldham3018Ай бұрын
It's Les Want. There was something about him in the blackface makeup that scared the bejesus out of me as a kid watching. The other minstrels didn't scare me but he did!😂 And the woman is Dorothy Ogden. She was very pretty.

to think that this is where someone as sweet and mawkish as the Orville and Cuddles guy comes from is mind blowing. talk about dark origins lol

Just trying to figure out why it's kinda creepy today but perfectly acceptable jolly family entertainment half a century ago. Keith Harris with a minstrel puppet, too. Soon turned to green Orville, though!

this was when the "greatest generation"/V gen were still a significant demographic, the middle aged establishment. but i dont get the point of the blackface. whats the psychology? its all the men, and only the men. ???

@@natmanprime4295 In an earlier version of the show the Women did actually wear the makeup too, I've seen a photo from 1954 with the girls blacked up wearing torn dresses and oversized pigtails.

Yes, the show has recorded objections as early as 1961. And there were people within the BBC who fought to have it cancelled earlier but their pleas fell on deaf ears.
