Great looking bike. All the mod cons on it. Looking forward to the review vid. Good to see Elmley mast so close up. It was a super ride, especially that fast decent down off the Moss. The bike looked to handle well.

My first 'modern bike'. The last ones were back in 2009 - Cannondale Supersix road & Slice aero time-trial - and bike tech has changed beyond recognition in that time, for good or ill. I was a bit cautious at first on the Moss descent because I remember how twitchy the Slice aero could be in crosswinds, especially with deep wheels, but so far this new semi-aero design feels very stable. The 30mm tyres help with that side of things. When my 'staycation cycling' is out of the way I'll put out a spotlight video.

Thanks! It's a great area for cycling and I'm still only just scratching the surface. This twin-aerial ride is a long-time favourite - it's a shame I didn't do it last year when there was a temporary aerial alongside Emley Moor tower.

Cheers, Matt. I was shifting as I tried to chase down that motorbike - the ones in racing leathers fly past as if they're on the Isle of Man but this guy was quite steady.

Good call, Todd. That's a classic. I was going to mention a few Duran Duran possibilities but the road kicked up to 10% & I didn't have the breath! That takes the Supersix up to 200 miles so I'll do a standalone video once I've cleared a single ride of 100-120 km.

Excellent, great to see blue skies and dry roads. Would love a vid on your bike, see you joined the dark side with those discs :-)
@clippingin15932 ай бұрын
We cyclists love to complain about the weather but this was perfect riding weather for me. If I could've found a 'modern bike' without discs then I'd have been as happy as Larry but they're almost unavoidable - especially if we want to try wide tyres. My usual titanium machine has rim-brakes and I can squeeze in certain 28s but even then I have to deflate the tyres for a wheel change. I'm running 30s on the Supersix but by the looks of things it'll easily take 32 or even 34. Still, I didn't go for Di2 so that must be worth some trad-credit!!

@@steppings5645 Essentially, I don't see how electronic gears would benefit me or improve my rides. I don't 'get' discs for road-use but I couldn't really dodge them this time. With gears I had a choice & 12 speed mechanical 105 is good enough for me. If it was 2005 and I was racing time-trials seriously then it would be great to have gear shifters on the aero bar-ends and on the brake levers - back then I had to choose and for hilly TTs I often regretted going from STi to bar-ends. Nowadays I just ride-for-fun and an extra second here or there for a gear change doesn't really matter.

Cheers, Ian. This is an old favourite circuit but I never expected the weather and views to be as nice. Good choice on the classic track too! It's easy to forget how many great songs they had - I was going to name a few out on the ride but then the hill kicked up to 10% so I had to save some breath.

Look forward to thoughts on the new bike, Gordon. Looks the business! Cracking day for a ride out and great to have the motorcycles in the frame as you were descending there from Holme Moss; really helped show the pace. Considering the Pennine hills and my own fitness levels these days I'd probably go with the song 'Come Undone'! 🙂
@clippingin15932 ай бұрын
This episode is flushing out all the Durannies! The guys in racing leathers usually rip past at 60-70 mph but Sunday's pair were a bit more laid back. According to Garmin I was doing 40-45 mph on that section but I couldn't quite catch the slipstream to get out of the wind. That's 200 miles on the new bike and for an 'aero design' it was very stable in the crosswinds. I'll do a feature on it in a week or so.

Oh yes, I'm building a multi-channel empire on here 😁 This twin-aerial ride is an old favourite but there was a comment a few weeks ago telling of a ride linking Winter Hill with Emley Moor. I'd have to get an outward train to Horwich then figure out a route through East Lancs to open up the Pennines and connect to this one - it looks like a good project for the future.

@clippingin15932 ай бұрын
@@paulwatson8200 thanks Paul, those speed wobbles are very unnerving. Sometimes you can dampen them by hugging the top tube with your knees - changing the resonant frequency - but the main thing is to enjoy yourself safely & comfortably.

I saw that ride, Terry. Langsett Cafe was a regular lunch stop in the early 2000s on club rides - that hill behind is a bit cheeky when you're trying to warm-up again. Great riding in that area.

I remember the classic CTC emblem in the 90s when I had a BCF racing licence but they dropped it when they rebranded into Cycling UK. The passage of time is strange, I remember my dad telling me about the new eco-house when I was a little kid, then you blink and fifty years have gone.
