It was nice to see the coke battery at work. I think sometimes they get overlooked because the process isn’t as glamorous as the blast furnaces and BOF. Great footage

Think I saw more of the coke ovens than the actual blast furnaces. In any case, seeing that large flare was kinda depressing from an engineering and efficiency standpoint; I'm not totally positive but I'm pretty sure that waste gas being flared off at this coke oven battery has been utilized by some European mills to help heat the ovens that power their own blast furnaces.

It flares pretty often too. Live near this one and it constantly makes the night sky pulsate with an orange glow.

I work at this mill,that flare burns off excess gasses when theres an issue with the furnaces not being able to burn it off in the iron making process.
