I also did a lot of spotting at Longsight as kid. One of the last visits there were 506 units awaiting disposal where the 390's are currently parked on the far west side of the depot. Plus of course 40's on the diesel shed and 85 and 86's on the Electric shed. Good memories.

Enjoyed your drone footage. Forgot how large the depot is as I was round part of it, late eighties.

30+ years since I've been here and what a change. I counted only 3 Loco's in your footage. Sod progress bring back the 1970's to 1990's in my opinion much better period for spotting.

Agreed there - Current viewing isn’t a patch on the past unfortunately.

Great to see this depot, I did loads of spotting there as a kid. Its changed quite a lot around the diesel shed. Is the wheel lathe still in the old eurostar shed

Yes it is Chris. Still in regular use.

I wonder how much it costs to run depots like this? When there's not a lot happening I suppose they just get on with repairs etc but in view of the recent developments surely they must have less to do? I love the veiw though, it's great to see the 'bigger picture'.

Excellent footage 👍 Out of curiosity, in British Rail days, were the diesel depot and electric depot separate buildings, or were they simply different parts of the main building?

Thanks - I thought they were separate buildings but someone with more local knowledge can likely confirm 100%.
