Still the best, most realistic flight sim game for consoles I've ever played! I wish they would make a modern high def remake. The physics and realism is beyond awesome. The planes all feel very different, too. The hardest thing for me was to learn helis and also a carrier landing in an underpowered A7 with no afterburners

Check out Energy Airforce for the PS2. It was contemporary with this game but much more realistic.

@@drew3906 Nah Man Completely Opposite ! In Energy Airforce it doesn’t have a Smooth Detailed Flight model as Aero Wings nor does it have Super Sonic Shockwave Effect Or High Altitude Contrails etc.

@@mrandrossguy9871 I don't feel like going into it but have any fighter pilot compare them and they will agree with me that Energy Airforce is far more realistic. This game is extremely arcade-y. And I'm talking more about gameplay not graphics.

No conventional gamer talks about it, its only people who really are wanting a simulator game and don't care about going back a bit in terms of graphics. Its crazy how detailed it is for a PS2 game, really is similar to a lot of the big-name modern flight combat games out there right now.

Jesus, to think this came out before FSX even... and that game is hard to look at visually anymore. I'd still play this one in a heartbeat though. Loved the soundtrack. Loved the unlocking of planes. After I got everything, I'd always fire up Free Flight and just chill, perfecting landings on various surfaces, especially on the highway in the urban city map lol.

I loved / hated this game. The controls were an absolute bitch to master, and they tolerated zero error... However, the awesome mix of aircraft (jets, props, helos, & VTOLs), the realism, great graphics & cheesy Japanese rock guitar makes it a treasured part of my PS2 collection.

Awesome game. I got stuck on the high altitude alert of a “ufo” coming in and could never reach it in time to shoot down. It was one of the few that did the hd instal. Love this game.

If you used the F104 star fighter in the city you could land on the highway and afterburner to like 1000 MPH. The game wouldn't allow you to go past like... 600 or something. But you could go as fast as you wanted, with the landing gear down, running along the highway haha. Little glitch there

If only they made this one of the PS2 emulation titles on PS4 in the future... a man can dream, right? :P Seriously, I've always wanted to play it, but the game was region locked to the US, so I could never get a chance to. Besides, there's a severe lack of air combat/flight games on the Playstation (bar WarThunder), so it'd certainly fill a gap in the market! :)

Ace combat is the best flight simulated game, this reminds me of a mix of ace combat 2 with a little of airforce delta strike

Ace Combat is a flight arcade game. This one is striving for a flight simulator. There's a difference. DCS on PC would display the apex of the Flight Simulation genre; something not every Ace Combat player can play.

TheRibbonRed ive played one of those flight simulators before it was called Flankers 25... i never did figure out how to play that damn game and the other game i think is a really good one is IL2 sturnmovik, i know how to play that one it's one of my favorites! but i think your right AC players wouldn't be able too handle them barely me included lol the only flight game i play mainly is Ace combat i just love the story on that game and the soundtracks.. i havn't seen another flight game that has a good soundtrack like it, but i f i had to choose between flight simulators and arcade flyers most likely AC would win

I just wished that anything that has to do with futuristic spaceships were banned from the Ace Combat series. Even more so on the upcoming AC 7. Don't get me wrong, I still have my PS2 plugged in a nice 36 inch Vega Sony Trinitron, and enjoy Ace combat 4 Shattered Skies, AC 5 The Unsung War, and AC Zero The Belkian War. I never did get hold of the reality of having an F-16 C Fighting Falcon against a football sized UFO. Assault Horizon horrible "dogfight mode", is pure horror in all modesty. Developers confirmed that it was a subject of controversy even back then, and is not coming back. Personally, the old but awesome Strike Fighters 2 series (PC), Wings Over Vietnam, Wings over Europe, Wings over Israel, and North Atlantic, are my absolute favorites. All those (except N.A) thanks to genius designer Tsuyoshi Kawahito, and downloaded on user friendly Thirdwire Productions site. So long fellow Fighter Pilot.

I understand your point of view entirely, since the Ace Combat series has been part of my life. Besides the futuristic weapons and exaggerated "boss", those tunnels obstacles and time constraints, are still far fetched in my modest opinion. Still, please give a glimpse at ThirdWire Strike Fighter Series. O.S W-7/64 is mandatory here (my backup PC). So long fellow Ace Combat Pilot.

How do I evade missiles from a long range? I have a hard time doing so whenever I would do an air attack on free flight and select long range head to head. I would use some techniques that seem to work like 3 times and then they won't. Is there a way to avoid them 100% every time?

Megalodon64 Delay your maneuver a bit (by few sec) to allow closer missile then invert your plane and dive about 45degrees while turning 90degress perpendicular against source of missile. It would be easier if you also fire your missile, and wait till enemy turn so the enemy missile only fly straight to you (not correcting course to you). The objective is to make the missile turn as hard as possible. You can fly up first to ensure height advantage, but you must start with relatively fast speed and use a/b. Good luck!

You may not like this game. As AC is more arcadey and focused on story, this game is more focused on realism and actually learning how to pilot the different aircraft. There is really no story at all, unless you count arcade mode's little skirmishes. But, a good portion of the game is centered on training.
