How's your composting going on? I've been using a tumbler composting system (Jora JK-270) for 10 years now. It usually gets an infestation of black soldier fly larvae in the beginning of each cycle, then they all die when the temperature rises. I usually compost meat and whatever is left of my kitchen, which can include greasy things. And then I add feed the resulting compost to worm bins and leave there for months before using, the result is excellent. I wonder if the temperature of the Aerobin would rise enough and evenly to compost meat scraps, and I also wonder if that would happen while preserving a safe zone for worms in the bottom.

I did my first harvest of the compost from the bottom of the bin. The compost was somewhat soggy, but it did have a good loomy consistency. It smelled of citrus, due to the fact that we added plenty of citrus peels. About the meat, I'm not sure. I've been plant based for nearly 10 years. We add mostly vegetable scraps for the greens and shredded boxes for the browns. Hope that helps!.

I’ve same composter as yours(it’s 1 month old). I was very excited when I started adding things up. I added shredded cardboard , real compost, dry garden leaves , daily vegetable scrapes/peels and daily coffee grounds with moisture . All I could see is tiny little flies flying out of my compost each time I open it add new scrapes. Am I doing anything wrong? And I’m not seeing active decomposing or heat generated within. Any help or advice will be appreciated. Should I wait a little more to see things happen?

Are you doing Browns to Greens at a 2/1 ratio? Also how full would you say your bin is? Mine didn't start heating up until it was 3/4 full and compacted down.

The very top and very bottom of a hot compost bin are not at full temperature. Worms are smart enough to find their comfort zone.
