Turweston was my first landaway after the madness of covid lockdowns and I'll never forget the sheer joy i felt at seeing others, sat around their own aircraft on the apron, drinking from flasks, doing something we all love.

I used to regularly fly to Turweston with my instructor when I was based in Elstree. I did one of my first solo cross country flight to this airfield too. It was also a good base for a quick lunch on the terrace with a view. Good memories

I had a bacon and egg bap last week when I visited from Elstree and it was obviously farm shop quality produce. I also bought a couple of slices of their fantastic cake to take back for the guys at the school. Without doubt the best airfield cafe I’ve ever visited in terms of food, friendliness and ambience.

By far the best review so far! That said I am a little bias as this is one of my favourite airfields. I've visited this airfield so many times by air and by road. Always a warm welcome and the airfield manager Chris Brown is such a lovely guy and passionate about what he does. He's also a keen motorcyclist as am I! Thanks Jon, a great series. Please keep them coming 😀😀👍👍🛩🛩

Until I moved to Norfolk that was my home airfield. Have flown back a couple of times and still get a warm welcome from Chris. Thanks for the great review!

We were at Turweston last Sunday, operating three Chipmunks for a formation training day. They couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful. It was my first visit, and I’ll certainly be back.

Probably the best GA airfield in the UK. Its a good short hop from my base at Denham if time is somewhat constrained. Lets hope you go to Compton Abbas, Caernarfon or even Glenforsa - they are in such pretty loactions. Thanks for this Jon, I know editing and camera work is a lot of effort when you are doing it yourself. Btw, I love your Bolt Head video; I'm going to go this summer

What a great review and this has definitely put this near or top of my next airfields to visit. One of the biggest problems I find as I build hours is knowing where to go next and this little airfield would never have caught my attention. These reviews are great so thank you and keep up the good work 👍

Did my first solo landaway at Turweston. I was looking forward to sampling the delights of the cafe but there happened to be a moderately large event going on and it was packed, so I didn't even get chance for so much as a cuppa. I will be back!

Wow, well Turweston has come a long way since I grew up in nearby Brackley. A mate and I used to help the gliding club run the winch back down the runway 30-odd years ago! Absolutely loved doing that job. It meant we got to drive a car at 14! He'd also bring his air rifle along and we'd go shooting in the fields next door. Is that even legal anymore? Great review. I'll have to pop up to the cafe next time I'm home.

One of my first destinations since getting my PPL, mainly due to it being so high on the Skydemon list. I was not disappointed. Short jaunt from Redhill, with the challenge of Farmborough followed by rolling English countryside on an easy straight, northerly route. Very friendly ATC and fantastic facilities. I'll be back soon!

Holy cr@p. I performed my first solo land away to Turweston and then it was my first stop on my qualifying cross country, all from EMA. It did not look anything like it does now.

Might I suggest a review of Mid-Wales airport (Welshpool). Nothing particularly spectacular about the airfield itself, but the scenery around it is stunning and it has an unusual circuit. Compton Abbas is nice too and I would also be interested in seeing Perranporth in Cornwall. Just a few things for you to consider. Love your work!

@@TheFlyingReporter Absolutely no one I am afraid. I have visited 2 of them for my CPL qualifying cross country, but that is all the interaction I have had with them. The food at Compton Abbas is excellent!

Another airfield with an asymmetric circuit pattern and offset final for noise abatement purposes. What happens when all these greenfields are full of houses? Another good review, thanks Jon. [A general KZbin observation; the low percentage of viewers that give a 'thumbs-up' to the many hours of vloggers hard work editing🙃]

As I understand it, I believe the law was changed a number of years back where it has to state in the deeds whether there is an active airfield, motor racing circuit or the like nearby and therefore any new build purchase is made with that knowledge and therefore the owner has little course for complaint.
@chrismobi45
@chrismobi45 Жыл бұрын
The Circuit plan being the way it is goes back to the public inquiry 30 years ago and was what was needed to get the airfield back open , David Owen the owner and his legal team went through hell and had to jump through some big hoops to get us where we are today ;-) .

I enquired at Turweston many years ago when it first became a new GA airfield. There were a lot of objections from local people at the time and I think they thought I was one of the objectors so they never got back to me. I actually wanted somewhere to base a TB10. Never mind, all history now. I'll plan in another visit.

I’ve visited a couple of times, great facilities and lovely spot, however I’ve had issues with the cafe on both instances mainly due to its popularity.. last visit I made was on a Sunday, arrived at 11:30, Sunday roasts start at 12, we waited and were first in the queue at 12, only to be told they were sold out - people calling ahead to pre-order for later sittings! The roasts looked amazing that were coming out, but I was disappointed with the way it was managed.

I'm in my mid 30's and even for me Turweston looks too modern for GA. Modern buildings are fine for offices and housing but I prefer seeing older buildings at airfields that hold history. I notice you didn't mention any pricing on the food like you have in previous videos, but if the price of the cookies and drinks are anything to go by, I can understand why 😮
@sadblokeproductions
@sadblokeproductions Жыл бұрын
The reason we have the buildings we do is due to the investment and determination of the airfield owner. We don’t have any WW2 buildings as they were located elsewhere on the site and most were temporary types and nearly all were sold off in the 1950’s when the military pulled out. Those that are left are not on land owned by the airfield. What we have now have all been built since we reopened 30 years ago on the area between the original 3 runways and on two of them.

I understand that the LAA is based at Turweston. How is it possible to do a review of this airfield without a single mention of them? They administer the building, airworthiness and operation of a huge proportion of UK registered light aircraft, run specialist aviation courses and have highly qualified staff and engineers based there. Not a word about this. Not a single, solitary word.

There is a special episode already filmed about the LAA at Turweston, what they do and the Permit system. Hold your fire.

Hi John as Jon has said he has another report on the LAA and we were aware of this so never mentioned it , we never mentioned INEOS Britannia who are also part of the Turdy family. The nice thing is we all work together to make it an enjoyable place for people to visit 🙂

John, I was struck by the same omission. Even if there is an upcoming special, it was odd not even to mention the LAA.
