Continental started build agricultural engines but they also built and still do build aircraft engines. The 065 did not start out as an agricultural engine. It was and always wll be strictly an aircraft engine. And interestingly at one point Aeronca actuall used laminated cardboard ribs. That practice didnt last long, although I have seen wings with them.

Wow ! It amazed me how delicate the plane seemed before but now your saying they tried laminated cardboard as a construction method oh my !! Hope you enjoyed Pete's description?

@@thestanleysadventures8229 They were not and still are not as fragile as you think. They are pretty tough ole birds. There have been several over the years that got away from the person trying to hand crank them, took off, flew around for awhile pilotless, crashed and were still rebuildable. Not many netal planes can claim that.

@@ronfry3324 very true indeed, And very impressive to! Pete and Martin (the guy who was giving all the information as we walked around the planes) were very knowledgeable guys and made it an amazing and very informative day out.

@@thestanleysadventures8229 if your intereated in Aeroncas, there is a very good book out there by a Mr. Bob Holinbaugh. He was an engineer for Aeronca. Great stories and pictures. He owned the second 11AC Chief ever built. I live 6 miles from the old Aeronca factory. My Uncle Maurice Fry was a test pilot for them and was killed testing an L3 Aeronnca. Wing folded up on turning down wind. A strut bolt was installed incorrectly. Bobs book has a great picture of him with an L3 after he had the engine ripped off and made a successful emergency landing in a corn field. They are great sturdy aircraft.
