I don't know who's landing that Champ, but the landings are not okay, they are not good, they're not very good, they're absolutely *_PERFECT!_*

I've watched this 4 or 5 times over the last couple of years. Landing a champ on pavement is more work than on grass. Nice job on narrow pavement. Realy enjoy this video.

And the Champ is one of, if not the easiest tail draggers there is to fly/learn in. Same goes for the Citabria!! You can see over the nose while in the aircraft in any attitude, and this makes a huge difference for some.

That, is what flying is all about to me. Can it get any better on this earth in the fun column?

A long time ago I learned to fly in a 7AC, 65 hp. I always preferred it to the J-3 Cub the club also had.

I learned to fly in a 1956 Tri-Champ 7Fc with the 85hp engine. At 30 houes I transitioned to the 7Ec taildragger. The transition consisted of 5 touch and go landings. The instructor jumped out and said, "You're doing okay. Keep practicing your take offs and landingd for as long as you want." I looked at him and said, "are you crazy? This is my first time in a tail dragger." He replied, " No, you're a natural. Go practice for as long as you like. Come in when you get tired." As so it was . That was 1964. Never came close to ground looping any taildragger in approximately 4,000 tail dragger landings: Cessna 120, 140, 180, Ludcomb 8e, Aeronca 7Ac, 7Ec, Citabria, Decathlon, Scout towing glidees(2,656 tows), Maule M5 towing gliders, Piper Pawnee, AgCat, T-6,. The guy flying the 7Ac in this video also seems like a natural pilot. To maintain runway heading that perfectly indicates he is one with his plane. Some people never quite develop that natural oneness with the plane and you can see that in their landings. If they're really bad, you can see it as they approach to land.

Beautiful Champs. Every landing at every little airport gets rated by the observers.... most of these are pretty good. The one with wheel pants has some kind of problem, I don't know whether pilot or airplane but listen to the protests from the tires on touchdown and especially at the end when it is sort of high-speed taxiing. Perhaps the mains are badly out of alignment, or perhaps the aircraft is touching down crooked or with brakes slightly on. The one without the wheel pants is nearly silent on most touchdowns, is better on centerline and has less lateral drift. Also performed a really nice slip on one of the finals. I think both guys should get in the one without the pants for some dual time, and the one with wheel pants should have alignment and brakes checked.

I used to work at an airport (large with commercial planes and a few small ones) and this one guy, about once a week would take off in his Luscombe about 45 minutes before sunset. He'd land not much after the sun set. I'm not sure, but I'm convinced he'd go up to just see the sunset. I always admired that guy. That boy knew how to live!
