Part 3 of the build showing more on the reservoir, how I mix hydroponic nutrient and nutrient levels. Received a number of requests for this so tried to get it out sooner. I'll do a separate video on how I rotate plants in the tower and manage the system shortly.
Any comments or questions, please drop them in below and I'll respond as best I can. Thanks again for watching. (Sorry it is a bit shaky - shot it with my phone so had to do everything with one hand :) )

Hi, Can you please share some links on where to buy the nutrient solutions in Australia. I am planning to build my first areoponics system to grow tomatoes and strawberries. I will really appreciate if anyone could share some does and donts.

Great! Thanks for the advice and I'm also thinking of doing it solar powered I've found some good deals on water pumps on Amazon, solar panels too it seems very do able! I'll make it a challenge to build one by next month and make my very first KZbin about it ;)

Please will you give us the specifications of your measurement tools and where you find them. Also - where do we find the nutrient requirement details, eg nutrient types and concentrations.

Hi, My system would be in an enclosed area with controlled lighting by the way. I live in the Czech Republic, wide temperature range. i presume that your summer temperature can be quite high and since the ideal temperature for aeroponics is between 18 and 26C, how do you cope with summer? Obviously for winter it is possible to heat, if necessary. Is it reasonable to have a variety of plants in one tower, i.e. the greens etc, plus tomatoes, peppers and strawberries? That would mean that the nutrient solution would be the same for all the plants? What is the droplet size of your mister? Would you think that a bilge pump might be suitable, 750 gallons per hour? It is very kind of you to take the time and trouble to offer advice to the rest of us. Kind regards, Geoffrey

This is so cool. Is it possible to replace the nutrient mix with water from an aquarium? Like a aqua/areoponics mix? Do you think this setup would work indoors with grow lights? I live on the other side of the world, Sweden, and our summers aren't long enough(or some years hot enough) to get from seed or sprout to harvest.

Thanks for your vids mate. You have inspired me & explained it great. I will let you know when I get running. How big is the pump you use?

+Granny & Pa Sorry for the slow reply, missed a few messages somehow! When sizing the pump I found that the pressure rating is more important than flow rate. Depending on the number of spray heads you have and the distance you are lifting the water (measure from reservoir inlet to highest point in the spray manifold), you will need more pressure. The pump I have is continuous at around 55 psi and that is plenty. I am lifting the water about 1.5 metres without any problems. This growing season I will be experimenting with other pump and spray options though and will have some new videos coming then (season is around 2 months or so away now). Again, sorry for the delay in replying and thanks for watching :)

What is in the Hydro..what chemicals.. . would veggies be 'organic' ?? Thanks for this, great info!!
@goomer91
@goomer91 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah they're still organic and should be perfectly safe. Plants need particular elements to thrive, You can find all of them on the periodic table :) from my research these are NPK, Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), Potassium (K), those are the three main elements. Then we have Calcium (Ca), Magnesium (Mg) and Sulfur (S) Also some trace elements (which means far less of these elements are needed. but they are still necessary) Iron (Fe), Manganese (Mn), Copper (Cu), Zinc (Zn), Boron (B) and lastly some Molybdenum (Mo) Then theres other elements that can be used to raise or lower the PH. Plants also need sunlight, water, and oxygen and I believe other elements that make up our air. When a plant takes in these elements they work the same regardless of their source. Wether the plant draws it in through soil thats been enriched by purely natural (Organic) processes or if it has the required nutrients dissolved in water then sprayed onto the roots it's still giving the plant exactly what it needs on an atomic scale. I only just started learning about this so if anyone has corrections or anything to add please do :)

Hey Rick, would you say the blue drum system was a success? thinking about making one, would you change anything?

So how does the schedule looks like or is there none? Depending on the conditions and the stage of the plants I guess?

+Cannabis GrowOp I have experimented with a few different timings and will have a new video on that in my next growing season (about 2 months or so away). Optimal seemed to be on for around 1 minute and off for 7 minutes. I am working on some monitoring gear though that will keep an eye on conditions and adjust spray rate accordingly as in the heat of the day, 7 minutes was perhaps too long between sprays. More coming on this though and thanks for the question and for watching.

wow man I'm totally doing this what is the estimated total cost of everything including the client system?
@patchtoplate-australia
@patchtoplate-australia 9 жыл бұрын
Jonathan McNeal G'Day! A little hard to give a cost for everything as I had the pump and use it for other things so haven't factored that in. I am also researching some other options with solar and a smaller pressure pump so that will change the cost as well. On the tower itself though, you can pick the drums up for free pretty easily (or for around $10). The manifold and spray heads were under $20. The most expensive part in my build was the 45 degree elbows to use as grow tubes. I have 67 of them and they were just under $150. Two ways to keep the cost down though, less grow tubes - could easily get by with half of what I have), or use straight PVC and fit it to the drum at an angle. More work in doing it that way but would bring the cost of the grow tubes down to like $10-15 + a bit of elbow grease :) Hope that answers the question for you and thanks for watching.

Jonathan McNeal Extra to my last message - things like the pH and nutrient meters, nutrients etc, prices will really vary depending on what you use. Probably best to look online or visit your local hydro store to get an idea of what you will need and what it costs in your part of the world. Good luck mate :)
