Once upon a time in Calaveras County Old man Smiley has a habit that he can't surmount, he Bets a check on anything that a cat can count, so he Fished up a frog, made it bounce for bounty. Calculate to educate it in the long jump scene, Leap like a snake on a spring from a can a' beans, Lift the lid and this kid, blasting smoke and steam, Would hop half way 'cross the bowling green. Turn one somersault, or maybe a couple - Frog flies, every eye on that tumble Smiley's trophies pile high but all Bets are off when froggy's fed a truffle. Kid seems sluggish on the starting mound, Head too heavy to get off the ground! Smiley swears his revenge but he's never found The stranger took the bullfrog's bounce and left him earthward bound

A lot of his darker and more abstract work has been both beautiful and important to me. I like this track too. That said it's funny to me that Aesop Rock circa 2001 is like: 'pterodactyl dream sequence obsession elasmobranch honorific twisted misfit kissing all the banana bunches fantastically' but Aesop Rock circa 2021 is like: 'go Larry, go Larry'
@McArRuIzO3 жыл бұрын
Eh, rappers evolve. I think young Aes had something to prove. Came from the hip hop underground with the hardest metaphors and deepest cuts he could muster. Older Aes is like fine wine, unbound of expectation and well into his iconic style and flow. Artists usually have high and low periods, or just fall off entirely. Difference with Aes is... this man has never dropped an album. Like 99% of his songs and features are blazing hot fire. He has the formula.

I'm new to Aesop but i've never heard a guy with a more conversational style. It's like he's just talking to you and it happens to rhyme, like really good. This guy raps without sacrifice. Long Legged Larry for Mayor for real.
