No. Not being able to understand gives a vocal sound an entirely different feel. I like to listen to an Icelandic band called Sigur Ros. I can't understand a word the singer says and it gives the songs an entirely new perspective to be approached from. A perspective where everything you hear is simply a 'sound'.
