@@emperorpaws8447 I don't know about that for one simple reason, there kinda needs to be a "cultural shift" for AEW to takeover. WWE, especially in the last 20 years, has been by many associated with the term "professional wrestling" itself, despite being the one company that doesn't want to be associated with, even while pretty much holding a monopoly over the business for so long. The problem with It is because of the way WWE has been for the last 20 years, their reputation is pretty much wrestling's reputation. So to most people now, not us fans of course, wrestling is silly. And it is childish. It's often stupid and it's definitely not cool. As long as this is wrestling's reputation on the outside, It will be hard for new fans, fans that never gave wrestling a chance, to start doing It now, because even if they did they have to fight confirmation bias. And as long as WWE has most overall exposure than AEW, which at least is trying to make wrestling feel cool again, the hill to climb to win over new fans will be very high and It will remain a fight mostly for "lapsed fans", which is a smaller pool to take from.

John Cena being a draw for house shows isn't just about WWE's inability to make new stars, but really also about WWE's outdated idea of how to build the stars they do have: feed the entire "not-over" roster to "the guy" so that "the guy" can carry the whole company while everyone else get to stay geeks with 50-50 booking. It's still happening with Roman, and it'll eventually become a problem once they run out of credible challengers and part-timers. The fact is, the whole idea of that one guy who can carry the entire company (and so is worth stunting the rest of your roster in order to build him up) just doesn't make sense anymore. Building a roster who can organically get over in their own ways is what builds that stability that'll keep a wrestling company healthy through good and bad times.

It never made sense. At their peak, WWE had The Rock, Stone Cold, Undertaker, Kurt Angle, Brock Lesnar, Chris Benoit, Chris Jericho and Eddie Guerrero. Any one of those could have led the company alone but the strength was in the collective. Nothing has changed about that. Vince just refuses to see it.

Cesaro, Mox, Rollins, Sami, KO, Bryan, AJ, Bray, Braun and probably people I’m forgetting all have been held back just so they didn’t get more over than him. Despite dealing with a full year without crowds and touring, when they were entering a crucial growth period, they are now hotter than they were after Mox won the title and Blood and Guts was about to happen. They’ve done an amazing job. Just think, WCW was around in one form or the other for years before they finally got the upper hand in the ratings war against WWF from 1996 to early 1998. TNA/Impact at one time had the more impressive roster by miles, yet never came close to posing a threat to WWE (thanks Hogan, Bischoff, and Russo). TNA was never acknowledged by WWE or caused Vince to counterprogram against their show, AEW has forced WWE to do both in their less than 3 year existence.

It’s simple. AEW has done a great job with the roster they have. Lucha Bros are more over than the Usos. Darby Allin is more over than Karrion Kross. Jungle Boy is more over than Shinsuke Nakamura etc. WWE is putting their budget into making sure Roman and Charlotte stays over while all the other full timers on the roster are an afterthought. Miz TV and all those other copycat segments just take time away from getting talent over. No surprise that audiences are gravitating towards AEW.

AEW still has room for improvement, I watch the show every week and there are a lot of moments where I get frustrated with the way they book certain things because they are not logical or they sometimes over do it with certain matches or segments that would have been so much better if they were kept more simple and grounded, idk if they need some super strong hand booker that controls the major spots and finish to EVERY single match on the card every night but goddamn maybe that would help make things smoother in certain aspects if they had a sound mind “pulling the strings” that being said they currently have the most interesting roster in professional wrestling right now; a lot of possibilities

Haven't watched a minute of WWE in a couple weeks now (before i used to watch at least all the highlights) and i feel like i am missing absolutely nothing. Characters stay the same, their kayfabe strength stays the same, and it has many inherent logical faults on every show. Hope they get their act together

And these guys pointed this out not that far back on a show. They looked at the rosters and at the time saw that Smackdown had 24 active men on the roster(including people like Drew Gulak, Tozawa, others in the 24/7 chase. AEW had like 79 active men on the roster. With the small number of people on each WWE show we see the same matches and feuds over and over and over while AEW always has something fresh and new to give us. WWE is the largest and greatest pro wrestling company in the world and the only place they really show it is in how overproduced and bland the shows are.

At first I used to watch the matches, and watch reviews/podcasts about them afterwards, _and_ sometimes comment. Then I cut it down to I'll _maybe_ fast forward some matches to see if there's any good spots. Then I ended up fast forwarding to JUST the stuff I wanted to watch. Then that became "I'll watch the reviews FIRST to see if there was any good matches." Basically I'm at a point now where the ONLY time I'll turn it on is if somebody specifically says "did you see what happened on RAW/Smackdown this week?" ... and even then, it has to be something good to make me actually put it on.

I hadn't watched wrestling for nearly 20 years. Nothing about the WWE in that time interred me. I watched All Out, I watched the Wednesday show after. I won't pretend AEW is amazing or that I'm back to caring about wrestling but only AEW feels alive, WWE still has *nothing* to tempt me to look at it, even illegally. 3 hour Raw and ppv every month is an insane commitment and the hardest possible 'no' from me. Vince is too old and the company is too corporate. It isn't possible for them to produce interesting tv.

It lacks all the overproduced glitz and glamour of WWE, but feels more honest with simpler stages and just cloth ring aprons. They start ever show hot with a big, exciting match instead of a half hour promo. Though the guys are generally smaller, they all have experience in the indies and are full of passion for wrestling. They're not bodybuilders who never cared about wrestling, 100% molded in some corporate training center. Basically AEW has heart and passion while WWE just feels like a soulless machine.

AEW isn't perfect but they make good shows, ever since it started I eventually stopped watching WWE, not cause I thought WWE was really bad or anything but I just wasn't having fun or getting genuine reactions and their shows just felt robotic to me while with AEW I keep getting excited even if sometimes the shows feel slow or have bad storylines, they also have great shows case in point All Out and a can create great storylines with promos that sound way more interesting to me

WWE hasn't been at the mercy of another promotion to this degree since the late 90s. What should terrify WWE drones is that, this is going to get WORSE. Especially once COVID is done and travel opens up. WWE isn't drawing cause WWE has no draws, particularly on Monday night. Drew was pretty much run into the ground before he had a chance to be one I think. He's probably switching shows next month to give Roman some fresh meat to gnaw on until Mania. Beyond that though, who??? Big E will be lucky if he escapes 2021 as WWE Champion all told. Given recent history with Kofi and Bianca, it doesn't seem to bode well for Big E. What also doesn't bode well for Big E is that despite the win six nights ago, the only true star is Roman right now. Big E should've beaten HIM NOT LASHLEY. "Play your hand, not the hand across from you." It's an old quote I heard in regards to the game of Spades and it's true here. WWE has to play their hand, which right now is 1 (Roman) and a ton of possibles. AEW has a KILLER HAND, which will be on display on Wednesday and Friday of this week at Arthur Ashe. MJF could show up on Raw tomorrow night and be the biggest star there. The WWE's problem is that they're not able to make stars with the kind of drawing power that Cena, Austin and The Rock have had in the last 25 years or so. WWE's so hell bent on it being their way, they genuinely can't make one without crushing them after the fact. It's astonishing they haven't fucked up Roman yet.

WWE doesn't understand that rivalries draw. I'd pay to be at an arena just for CM Punk when he debuts. But after a while that wears off. I'll pay to watch Bryan, but after a while he stops being new. But I'll always pay when there are exciting rivalries, Bryan vs Omega, Bryan vs Punk, Omega vs Hangman. NJPW does the same, Okada alone doesn't sell tickets, people come for Okada vs Naito/White/Tanahashi/Omega/Ospreay. In WWE, they no longer have Austin vs McMahon, Austin vs Rock or Shawn vs Bret. Now they have one guy and a roster full of 50/50 booking. After a while one guy won't be enough to sell tickets. People come for the 1v1 headline fights. That's how real fighting shows sell as well.

It also isn't worth putting shows on in MSG. WWE almost never does it for a reason. To work MSG you have to pay for union labor instead of using your own if you want to broadcast out of that building. After going to Dynamite/Rampage a couple weeks ago in Cincinnati, I can attest to the fact that the shows themselves are just more fun. The events, the crowd, and the overall atmosphere at the arena is just different and more fun. It's similar to how an old ECW arena show probably felt. Not to say the show is better, but the live shows definitely just feel different than a stale Monday Night RAW live event.

I feel like WWE would benefit greatly from adopting some of AEW's practices. Obviously not using talent to the extent that they constantly break down is working much better. I love the Horsewomen but they and Asuka can't carry the entire women's division by themselves, look what happened. Now you're putting it all on Becky who hasn't even had a full match yet because she came back early from pregnancy, and Charlotte who is forced to work with Nia Jax of all people. That just sounds like a recipe for disaster. And if they go down, what is WWE going to do? Have Bayley hop out on one leg and cut scathing promos every week? I've been watching wrestling for 30 years now. I've attended all kinds of WWE/WCW shows over the years. Rumble '94, Mania 11, KOTR '97, Backlash '99, Raws, Nitros, Thunder, Smackdown, NXT Live, Takeover 25. If WWE and AEW both came into the Providence market right now, I'd choose AEW and it's not even close. Who is putting out the better product? Who is putting out the better live tv? WWE's s*itty, lazy creative is finally catching up to them. Fans needed a reason to leave WWE and with WWE's product and incredibly horrible business practices, they've been given one.
