Great video, my fire dept just got this meter. Thank you sir

HXG 2d - this is been the best gas detector I have found I been using this instrument for multiple years - unable to detect small amounts of gases in the building such as a bedroom maybe 5 to 10 ppm - because as we know the methane is lighter than air - so many people do not understand breathing 5 to 10 ppm methane/natural gas will take the oxygen from the brain - and physicians hardly ever ask their patients did you ever have your building checked for environmental issues such as natural gas etc - I was considering SENSIT gold model but I'm not quite sure if I will get much more out of that for another thousand dollars - what will gold G2 - tell me that the HXG 2d won't tell me? Thanks Ed

Ed, HXG 2d is the way to go instead of the G2 or Gold if all you are looking for is Methane/Nat. Gas.

Which model of Sensit would you recommend?

What is it detecting? CH4? Can it detect heavier hydrocarbons?

In the video, I do cover this. Heavy hydrocarbons are a no go for any instrument that uses a MOS sensor for LEL determination. Traditional catalytic bead sensors are a better choice for LEL scale work when dealing with gases and vapors other than Methane/Natural gas, and propane.

I still prefer my Inficon D-Tek combustible gas detector.

That's a nice little leak detector and it is intrinsically safe Class 1, Div. 1, A-D if it's the Gas Mate version. No display though.

Very good methane gas leak detector indeed. But what happen if your house has a gas stove gas water heater and gas heating furnace that they are not 100% efficiency at burning gas ? There are always some residual left over gas that still there? It does not mean there is a leak in the gas burner gas furnace etc etc.. It's just they not very good machine and they does not burn 100% gas they received. and your machine will detect gas from zero and up ppm? Really? I rather not using it in my house so I can sleep better at night

If your burners are not 100% efficient they will produce Carbon Monoxide and there will be a little blow-by of methane/propane. This is why I mentioned using a multigas instrument in conjunction with a leak detector. If you are looking for a leak from a valve or gas line, it won't be a factor. Carbon Monoxide instruments should always be used as well.
