This is crazy that I’m watching this now. I installed this intake on my Durango about a week ago and the same issue. Fixed it the same way.

*UPDATE* This "mod," does work but it can come back out - it doesn't come out as nearly as often though! With the stock fittings the filter would get pulled out of the box all the time - but now it only comes occasionally. It's still 99% inside the air box, the filter is not outside at all - it's just the plastic tube starting to pull out. Still a million times better than a K&N where the filter just sits there in the open. At least this filter is still in the airbox and getting cold fresh air through the vent on the upper bumper. The next step is a custom-made coupler but it's not a high priority at this time since it's not a major issue.

I installed mine yesterday and wiped the oil off the black edge on the filter since its only meant for the filter. No issues after a few pulls.

Thanks for this. Ill be adding afe and using the coupler. I'll also be tuned in for that exhaust video. I wasn't planning on changing anything on the exhaust for my tow and go but ill definitely check it out and see if i like it.

I build my first then start from the right then to the left. My 2019 durango RT. Every 40 miles I have to tighten it. I get the new magnum that is meant for it. It was on my 2017 grand Cherokee 5.7 so it works on my 19 durango.

Hows it holding up now?
@MidwestMotor8 ай бұрын
it worked but I have bad OCD! LOL! I didn't like having that elbow going into the throttle body - my mind was thinking that it could affect proper airflow. So I went to AFE website and see they finally updated this product to fit better after I complained - so they sent me a new (longer) main tube and a redesigned TB coupler. HUGE shout-out to AFE for doing that!
@BlazingPigy8 ай бұрын
@MidwestMotor awesome to hear! I wish they would've addressed the issue on their website since I was put off by all the bad reviews and decided to go with a Volant 161576 CAI instead. It's on order yet but almost every review is positive unlike the AFE..
@MidwestMotor8 ай бұрын
@@BlazingPigy I have zero complaints about my AFE - except just the main long plastic tube wasn't long enough. But as I mentioned they fixed that now so I love it. That Volant looks good and cheaper than the AFE.

They updated the tube? I have this coupler but it still kept popping out, just less. I took the whole system out because of this and it’s sitting on my shelf.
@BlazingPigy8 ай бұрын
@gilgarcetti75 That's exactly what I heard from most everyone. For $500, you should at least have peace of mind knowing it won't be an issue.. This Volant that is getting delivered today looks great.

What is the inlet/outlet diameter for the race bullets and xpipe? Spoke to several different people at dodge and nobody seems to know the diameter of the TnG exhaust lol

The exhaust shop already had an X-pipe so I'm not sure what they used.

How does this coupler hold up for the problem?

Hey sir! I just saw your update video the other day. Looks like yours is holding up and so is mine.

@@MidwestMotor it is. That top clamp bolt I cut down about an inch. Now I’m able to tighten that clamp down how it should be. It’s not budging with the coupler And the clamp fully tightened!

Does it really matter though? The filter is still in the box and protected from rain
@MidwestMotor2 жыл бұрын
Yes it does matter because the farther it comes out it's creating a "leak," in the system. Also sucking in hot engine bay heat. The box gets cold air from a vent under the hood. Lastly it's not 100% protected form the rain because the performance-hood has a big air vent right above the filter.

When you change your pipes. Do that mess up your warranty?
@MidwestMotor Жыл бұрын
LOL! Not at all. What warranty would that void? It's doing exactly the same thing as the factory box but a lot more efficiently.

Thank you so much for this video ! I have the same issue here. Unfortunately the part you are talking about is " Currently unavailable " on amazon. I will keep looking. The Filter is 90 percent in its housing. I am assuming that it won't cause any issues until I am able to get this coupler ?
@MidwestMotor2 жыл бұрын
This coupler has helped a lot! It makes the filter stay inside the airbox about 90% of the time. I've had the problem reoccur even with this coupler but rarely. I've only had to re-insert the filter one time since installing this new part.
@skylineg12762 жыл бұрын
@@MidwestMotor I just hope I can get my hands on one soon. Do you think it will cause any problems if it takes a long time to get a hold of ?
@MidwestMotor2 жыл бұрын
@@skylineg1276 Not at all. There's the K&N and other CAI's that don't have an airbox at all and they just sit completely in the open sucking in hot air and moisture. At least with ours (even with the minor issue) it's still 99% inside the airbox staying safe.

I have a 2018 Durango Rt Hemi 5.7. Will I have the same issue with the cold intake pulling away , I don't if it's just certain years or all Hemi's?

Good question - I'm not sure about the 2018. I think there's other options for the 2018. But it's an easy fix if you do have the same issue.
