I've never been able to find this movie ANYWHERE on the internet until right now - THANK YOU! This was Rita's return to film after her marriage to Aly Khan ended so badly. Harry Cohn tried to recreate "Gilda"'s magic yet with diminished returns. It's still a good yarn & she's still in fine form, though dancing to a different style of choreography thanks to Valerie Bettis.

Affair in Trinidad is another great Rita film, she never gave a bad performance. And dance was in her DNA, so talented and beautiful. Glenn Ford was so unlikable here but, he is always watchable as well. After this film, Pal Joey, with Sinatra and Novak, Rita is superb, even as she worked hard to overcome the horrid disease that eventually took her. Notice, in the beginning, the ambulance pulls up, and right behind it comes the chap from the American embassy. He pulls up so close to the ambulance, they couldn't close the doors again, let alone load up the stretcher with the body. The car is also blocking the ambulance from getting out. Ahh, the good ole days, when locals stood by and bided their time until the bwana finishes his business.

Her family was performers ... She was the youngest (I think) and became the star attraction in her family's performamce... She was Jewish on her fathers side & Irish on her mothers... When the studio caught wind of her , they set in building her image .. Her hair line came far down on her forehead & she went thru painful electrolosis to move her hair line to where it is in this pic... Her name was changed & the rest is history. Later in her career , she showed signs of memory loss & eventually died of Alz.. She had a very close relationship with her family (especially her father). Not sure where any abuse took place...

@@pdrphil8159 Her name was Margarita Cansino. It was her father who was abusive. I do believe she and Glen had a relationship. She was beautiful and men used her.

@@pdrphil8159I read that she slept in her mother’s bed for protection from her father. I think she was abused in one way or another by many people and only Glenn Ford stayed loyal to her until the end (other than her daughter), through thick and thin. When she started showing signs of dementia, people thought that she was just drunk. Very sad, such a beautiful and talented woman. Even Fred Astaire said he enjoyed dancing with her more than Ginger Rogers, she had a more natural movement.
