High Pass Sharpen is a great way to increase sharpness in a localised manner.

as with unsharp mask, high pass creates halos and these are hard to remove . There is a better technique that I use that does not create halos. IT is somewhat counterintuitive It is the inverse of the bilateral blur filter. This is better because the bilateral blur preserves edges and that is what gets sharpened by any technique first as it is an area of high contrast..It also does not create halos. I have placed a macro for this on the affinity forum some time ago. For high pass when I do use it I always use less than 1 pixel to minimize halos...
