Shooting on the Leica M10 requires me to shoot underexposed to preserve highlights - a known feature of the m10 sensor. Affinity Photo 2 shadows algorithm is great and works great for detail recovery and I use it all the time! Great video again!

Thanks for the feedback! Shooting underexposed...is that a unique characteristic of m10? Affinity's highlight recovery is great! I didn't know until I did all the tests.

@@takebetterphotos8132 The M10 is quite prone to blowing highlights if you're not careful so 90% of the time I shoot underexposed and then lift shadows/reduce highlights more (if required) before using Curves - another great algorithm in AP2 there. I've learnt how to treat the files and I'm comfortable editing them but I must admit that vs files I edit from my Fujifilm camera with the modern lenses, the M10 files require more work and thinking - another conversation topic, I guess :)

Yes blown highlights is one thing that can't be fixed. Images with deep blacks look more attractive anyway! I just shoot in brackets though for more certainty! By how much do you underexpose?

@@takebetterphotos8132 , usually by -0.3 and in some instances -0.7. In some conditions however, it's ok to shoot at 0 exp compensation - it all depends on the available light and, as it is with photography, the strength of light (daytime, evening, etc.) :)

Great thank! 0.7 is what I use as well.

The same highlights/shadows adjustment that's in the Develop Persona is in the Photos Persona under Live Filters (last one at the bottom of the stack).

Wow. I did not know this. Thank you! They actually have three places to do shadows/highlights. Any idea why Affinity did it this way?

Thanks for the tip ✌

After your intro, I was WAITING and waiting for you to process the portrait photo with uneven face lighting, but to no avail. Was this just click-bait, or will this photo be done in part 2?

Hi sorry if the intro was misleading, it was merely to show examples of how the technique might be used. I will be coming up with a specific lightening of uneven facelighting/face shadow video in the next few weeks. It will be specifically titled as such but not the next video yet! 🙂
