Damn, I'm glad I found this video. Very rarely someone making Affinity *ADVANCED* tutorials that very easy to understand not just to experts but also to beginners, because these are still new for someone who using adobe for years like me. But as you can see, many of us are looking for alternatives and I'm using Affinity now, its similar like Adobe, but need a little adjustment with the features that are not as easy and details as new Adobe, for example I noticed we still need to manually using selection brush tool while in new version of Adobe we only need 1 click button and the software will automatically select the object that we want. In the other hand I feel nostalgic using Affinity like the good ol' days in Adobe, but still, despite many "worst things" that's happening in Adobe right now, they brought many good features that Affinity should follow. Once again, thanks for making this video. And I'll subscribe your channel for Affinity contents, nothing wrong to learn from beginning again, because I adore this software right now😁. And I believe Affinity will be huge in the future and many agencies and corps will be using it, so when that time is come I already be prepared😁

Glad you found it helpful. You summarized perfectly the pros and cons. Now that Affinity is bought over by Canva I believe the pace of change will be faster...basic things such as one-click selection tool SHOULD have been there long ago. Frankly the main differentiator of Adobe is really is its AI tools and generative AI. "And I believe Affinity will be huge in the future and many agencies and corps will be using it". --This is true people won't use software if they don't see a bright future and constant development. That's something again Canva can help with.

LAB curves allow you to change the the underlying color without sacrificing the contribution of all the other colors in the scene. I can change blue to yellow without losing green and magenta contributions. And vice versa. I can also use LAB blend ranges to more accurately nail down the hues I'm trying to change.

Thanks for the tip. Will have to orient myself on LAB 😊

Great video as always! You did not touch on the use of the roll off nodes to refine the use of the HSL tool. Does this makes the HSL tool more accurate and in some cases more flexible than the replacement brush or are there other limitations that I am missing?

Hi I actually have not tried the roll off nodes. But based on my experience always try HSL as it is faster and simpler and use replacement brush only when HSL is not working.

@ thanks as always for your great videos and fast responses to questions. The roll off nodes are pretty cool, in short, to isolate a color click the eyedropper on the color to isolate, slide the saturation level to 0. This will grey out the target area and the roll off nodes will help refine the isolation. Then reset the saturation level and hue shift to the color desired. It’s especially good for fixing skin color.

How come HSL has no effect on changing my black and white camouflage pattern? I want to make orange, green, blue, purple camo? Here is a video of the problem (Affinity Photo 2.5): kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6GToIeceNuabck

Changing the color with HSL only works when the image has a hue to be shifted . What you want is to do is to colorize a black and white image. The easiest way to do that is the color blend mode similar to here kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6mai4CXfLabapIsi=6AOAV2MqdzT0Bqy_
