PEN TOOL PRO TIP! Create an elipse. Then look at what the anchors are doing. They're straight lines coming out from nodes that are all perpendicular to each other in a cross shape. That's what curves are supposed to look like. If you have a curve to make with the pen tool, put an anchor before the curve, put one at the apex of the curve with a straight line coming off like the circle had, then put another point at the end of the curve. Boi you just made a perfect curve.

It sounds like the image was not rasterized. This can happen if you open a photo in a way other than using File > Open. I recommend you use File > Open to open the photo, and then try again. Alternatively, you can right click on the photo's layer in the Layer’s Panel, and then click “Rasterize & Trim”. Then everything should work as expected. I hope that helps. 😊

Help! I am following your tutorial up to the "Levels" adjustment; I select my paint brush, select black to paint on white mask....but nothing happens. Painting on the white mask in black does not do anything. I have gone over your step by step instructions a few bazillion times...but cannot paint on the mask. Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong? Thanks.
@AffinityRevolution2 жыл бұрын
If you open a new photo, are you able to apply an adjustment and paint on it? Perhaps something just went wrong in the file you were working on.

Thanks for the tutorial. This is a very nice effect. However, I had problems to reproduce it... The Gaussian blur live effect did not work. The blur only appeared inside the selection. So no glow to the outside. Although I deselected it as in your video, right after duplicating. When I tried Gaussian blur as a layer effect, everything worked fine. Any idea what reason it might have that the live effect didn't work?
@AffinityRevolution2 жыл бұрын
It sounds like your selection was applied to the blur filter. Double check that the blur filter's mask icon in the layer's panel is pure white, and doesn't have any black parts on it (which indicate areas that the filter is not being applied to). You can paint white on the layer mask to change those black areas to white.

I would highly appreciate a video explaining the pen tool. Everybody I alwys hear seems to love it, but I truely HATE it! The lines are always bending everywhere, but never where they are supposed to. I do not believe I am the only one having trouble with that. So, I need to understand better the functionality of the pen tool. Every video I saw about it could not explain it that way, I got the "click" to understand it. But I bet you can! Thanks a lot!
