What makes a successful microbrand?
Sales figures are important yes, but I think it goes beyond that. Is the design original? Does it have substance to it? Does the potential excitement run deeper than just nice specs? Will the brand be around in 10 years? How are the details beyond the fit and price? How is the brand customer service? What makes it different from the host of other micros and Kickstarter campaigns?
Today's review is an affordable microbrand diver from RZE. The watch carries the specs, but will it be successful? Is there the substance present that we seek as watch enthusiasts? I hope to give you enough information here to make that call.

I actually bought the RZE Resolute "field"watch as my first ever microbrand purchase. I really like the unique styling, and thought the field version showed off the angular case better than this dive version due to the less imposing bezel.... It wasn't bought to go into rotation with my Omegas or some of my other "nicer" watches. It is meant to take over duties when I get home from work and my other watches go onto their fluffy pillows in my watchbox. It will also do the same on weekends when I'm home working on the house, playing with the kids, etc.

Having owned hundreds of watches, my advice is to not get your hopes up that other micros live up to the package RZE has delivered. The Resolute is an awesome watch for the money.

Bruce, don't think many people buying lower/mid priced microbrands are too worried if the brand is goin to be around in 5-10 years. They all have serviceable movements anyway.

Really like all of the things that they put into the watch for everyday wear. Beating a watch around the grocery store where I work keeps me looking at less expensive watches. However, I do own 2 Omegas and a Breitling but don't wear them daily to work. I wear Zelos, Vaer, a Magrette and other less expensive watches. That's why this one looks good to me,especially the hardened coating on the titanium. I just wish that they had put a little better movement in it. Thanks for the review!

This looks like a really good designed watch. Sometimes a guy might want to pick up another watch just because it has a different dial color, like this white dial here. For the price this RZE looks like it would be a great watch for people looking in this price range. I could see wearing this watch while golfing, going to the beach, or any outdoor activity where I don't want to worry about scuffing it up a bit. Looks like a winner!

nice vid. The other day i found the company that makes the watches for rze and other brands. they are from china and they are well equiped in terms o options. i wish there was more brands like rze. this is how watches were made in the old days, you buy chassis here, buy movemen there... its so nice and it adds the nice amount of history.

It would be cool to hear more about how this watch operates within its price point. I believe it is well priced considering the titanium and the dial. A logical comparison would be the Helson Shark Diver titanium or possibly a Citizen titanium. The Helson has a better movement, but it also costs more. Miyota 9XXX typically costs three times as much as an NHXX.

I this watch and company has a fantastic offering with this watch. The yellow dial is awesome. I like how they've managed the empty dial space. I would say this feels very close to my Zelos Swordfish titanium. The specs are solid, but if I'm looking at where I'll spend my money, if I didn't have something similar, I'd be all over this. Since I do have several divers, if I was to compare this vs say the SecondHour, Vario, The Swiss Watch Co and my latest interest..Signum who have very differentiated dials, I think I'd go for the alternatives.

Late to the party, but I just ordered mine from their website - $449 USD with 10% discount. I also own Omega,Tudor, Brietling, but this is still a great price for this overall package - looks great and I can see plenty of wrist time going forward - great value IMO. They had all colors back in stock, so I went for the Yellow dial. Can't wait!

The dial is a bit conservative, but that's not necessarily a bad thing- love the case design and hurrah for no date (the most pointless complication imho, unless you have altsheimers bad memory). Price and spec are excellent... Will keep an eye on these. Thanks Bruce 👍🏻👍🏻 Edit - yep, agree with you... Once you've moved up a tier or two it's difficult to get excited about "lesser" watches, so I understand completely.

Its a very handsome piece .Trouble with the watch world now is that these micro brands prove how they can produce high quality without the ludicrous prices the big boys are asking for.It makes me question the hang tag prices bearing in mind that their AD,s swiftly take up to 40% commission just for the deal? Case design and finish looks awesome I did think the case looked zelo-esq and sinn immediately came to mind looking at the bracelet but it stands on its own like you at one point I would have snatched one up But like most in this hobby your acceptable amount of money to spend creeps up and up and up so obviously going to reach For those first great looking watch though!

I love the look of the watch and how it has more of a “square” angular bracelet and case. My only problem is I have 7 1/2 inch wrists and anything smaller than a 42mm just looks too small. If anyone has any suggestions for this similar style, larger, let me know. Thanks

I think they are offering a great watch at an awesome price. I really liked there Resolute Titanium that they released via Kickstarter (I picked one up). The two watches are very similar so I won't be buying the new diver but the weight of the titanium watches are awesome (super light).

How about the clasp and I heard it’s tough to get a nice fit due to lack of micro adjustments? Ps nice watch but the bezel action makes it a no from me, I have a similar bezel in my collection from another micro brand and it’s not for me from that experience

I think it’s a good effort at the price . Agree I wouldn’t buy one and it’s just not what I buy these days . If I’m going to buy micro it is higher end , that sounds snobby but it’s where I’m at . If you’re looking for 350 dollar watch it’s perhaps worth considering.. it’s such a crowded market and hard to be original at the price this does microbrand , a lot of value but lacking what I look for in a watch .

one note regarding the hardness of the surface treatment. Every review of this watch shows wear in between the first and second link as it leaves the lugs. At 1200V this should not occur. I've never seen a Sinn have that issue

Its acutally a lot more. I talked to the founder of RZE, he said it can add up to $100 if they use Miyota 9015, which makes the price not attractive anymore

This watch was a big disappointment. Very small watch, looks like woman’s watch on my hand. I had to return it. In addition, company is using DHL to ship meaning high chances that your watch would get lost but RZE is not taking any responsibility for shipping.
