First of all, congratulations to the Philippines for advancing to the knockout stage for the first time since 2018-even though it came at our expense. While it’s frustrating for us, credit where it’s due: they took their chances and got the result they needed. I can accept that Indonesia didn’t make it past the group stage in the 2024 ASEAN Championship. Honestly, I’ve been saying from the start that this young team wasn’t going to win the tournament. The lack of proper management made that clear. What I wanted to see, though, was improvement, and tonight, they finally showed it. While their earlier performances were frustrating to watch, tonight they played well as a team. That said, the red card and the penalty killed any chance of progressing. I do blame Muhammad Ferarri for the red card-yes, he was provoked, but he should’ve kept his cool. Playing with ten men was always going to be tough, and his decision hurt the team. As for Dony Tri Pamungkas, I can’t be too harsh. He had a solid game overall, and it’s just unfortunate that his mistake led to the Philippines’ goal. I know there are angry calls to sack Shin Tae-yong after this result, but I don’t agree with that. Still, I think we need to question his approach. As a coach, he can only work with the players he has, but I didn’t see any clear game plan throughout the tournament. Failing to make the knockout stage was disappointing, especially with results like a draw against Laos and a loss to the Philippines. Those matches really hurt our standing in Southeast Asia. Even so, I want to thank the players and the coaching team for their effort. No one feels this disappointment more than they do. If there’s any silver lining, it’s that we’ve seen glimpses of potential from our young players. With the right guidance, they could become something special. Here’s hoping they continue to develop and shine, especially with the 2025 SEA Games around the corner-let’s defend that gold medal! Cheer up, everyone. Even the best teams from the best countries have their ups and downs. What matters is that we learn and keep improving. Onward and upward, Garuda! 🦅 🇮🇩
