I cried when I read the Wikipedia page for the Republic of Afghanistan last night. It was in past tense. Afghanistan as we knew it, is past tense. In this community we surround ourselves with countries and history - we're all well aware of changes in governments and borders. But most of us were too young to have seen it first hand. The last major example was South Sudan, back in 2011. How many of us knew anything about the world 10 years ago? I'd take a guess at saying barely anyone. Afghanistan has fallen. Their flag, their anthem, everything about them will change. It's honestly quite overwhelming coming from the perspective of an outsider. It's a reminder that the world is not static, the world still changes. History is still being written.

This song has the flavour of the chivalry of the middle ages, juxtaposed with the firearms and uniforms of the modern French army. It's kind of unsettling, especially with the unstable situation in Afghanistan. It's upsetting in a way a happy song or even a sad song or even a horrible song can never be, because beauty and horror shouldn't go together, any more than hope and despair.

We romantize middle age chivalry. That was a very bloody era. Good news is that, humanity glorify good valors to this day, in our pervert societies. Never lost hope. About french military and song, that's a very old tradition link to history. Fascinating, and full of storys.
