There's something about the depiction of despair here - I at least interpret it as despair - that is so brutally raw and realistic that it can't help but evoke grief and sadness. The way Duncan moves, his face, the music, it's one of the shortest but most poignant displays of emotion I've honestly seen in a videogame.

@@RedFloyd469 It's the attention to detail here presented in the limitations of the games in engine render which kinda makes it all the more impressive. Always beleived personally that look in Duncan’s eye at the end of his life there was him realizing loghain’s betrayal. He knew the plan and saw we as the MC got the beacon lit, so he realized loghain must not have responded to it. Died in his last moments knowing exactly who was responsible.
@brummyuk-d6f6 ай бұрын
Battle was unwinnable anyway. That was the entire point. You want to hate Loghain, you really do. It isn't until later that you realise they completely underestimated how big the darkspawn horde was. Loghain DID make the right call to retreat his forces, as all charging down that mountain would have done is prolong the battle but the outcome would have been the same. Total annihilation of the Kings forces, which would have been disastrous because those forces that retreated made up the meat of the final battle. But Loghain also saw an opportunity to get rid of the 'idiot' king and save Ferelden. I ended up seeing a man that did what he thought best for his country instead of seeing an evil man. It was very well written. Everyone will have their own say on if Loghain is a traitor or not, but you cannot deny that his actions did lead to saving Ferelden in the end.
@Ryanfinder2266 ай бұрын
@@brummyuk-d6f there is nothing definitely showing that loghain was right. I also don’t hate loghain, he’s a great antagonist and his motivations based off old biases make sense. We defeat the darkspawn horde with only a fraction of the forces that loghain started with. It’s entirely possible loghains reinforcements would have allowed the battle to hold long enough for the archdemon to appear and for the grey wardens to try and slay it. It’s left ambiguous whether this would have succeeded on purpose.
@brummyuk-d6f6 ай бұрын
@Ryanfinder226 It's pretty much mentioned several times over the campaign that the darkspawn forces at ostagar were far more numerous than anticipated. Pretty sure there is also a scouting report before the final battle that says the same thing. You are right that it's left up to you to decide if he made the right call or not, but the battle was definitely unwinnable and the game makes no mistake at mentioning that over the course of the game. Loghains forces would not have changed the outcome. You are also outnumbered in the final battle but you take the darkspawn horde by surprise and attack from multiple directions holding only long enough to let the grey wardens defeat the arch dragon. The archdemon didn't appear at ostagar, so there was no way to actually win regardless.
@Ryanfinder2266 ай бұрын
@@brummyuk-d6f it is true there are more darkspawn than anticipated, but that’s not the defeat you think it is. Blights always outnumber everyone else there’s millions of DS in the deep roads and they come in force during a blight. We hear from a few sources that the reason they chose ostagar was intentionally to use the old fort’s ruins to create chokepoints where the enemy’s numbers can be mitigated. As for the archdemon not appearing, this was the vanguard of the invasion, it’s not going to appear in the first fight that’s true, but using the chokepoints of ostagar and the reinforcements hammering the bogged down DS to hopefully rout the horde, they could have bought more time for it to appear. Regardless how you think the battle would have gone, even if loghain was 100% right he still made the wrong call. Many of the kingdom’s elite were fighting with the king alongside all of the grey wardens. He could have easily attacked and committed a fighting retreat to pull out the whole army and thus left ferelden’s forces only slightly depleted. Then he wouldn’t have had to make to many tyrannical moves as regent to rebuild his forces.
@quannguyenle97755 ай бұрын
@@brummyuk-d6f he could prolong it long enough for the elite force to retreat and fight another day, with the king and the grey warden intact, there will be better chance for all human kingdoms to rallies for greater force, then they can send royal emmisaries to demand the help of dwarven and elf, i still believe it is a better choice to did not betray the king, that is why i execute loghain in my playthough

@RedFloyd469Ай бұрын
I did. "Redeem" would not be the word I choose. What's interesting is that you get to see his perspective. He's a fereldan Nationalist, forged in the fires of many wars against the orlesian empire. He saw his king as a traitor consorting with the enemy in the most literal fashion. As a man blinded by the empress' beautiful facade as well as words. To him, Orlais couldn't possibly change overnight, from an imperialist opressor into a peaceful co-existor. One way or another, Orlais would invade again, and he saw the king as the one to undo everything the fereldens had fought for for ages. All to become yet another vassal to the ambitions of uncaring, stuck up nobles of the orlesian snake pit. Now, that's NOT the perspective I take on the king's actions. But one thing is certain; the king was a gloryhound. He thought the could end the blight in a single battle. And while that may or may not have been possible, to him it was more important to seek glory and honor in battle than to do the most practical thing. Loghain recognized it. The king's wife recognized it. Loghain believed the battle was hopeless from the start. He believed there was absolutely no way to win against the blight with the numbers and tactics they were presented with then and there. So he retreated. It was treason, it was cowardly, and he pulled many strings to let this act be buried underneath propaganda and lies, but in his mind it was all justified for the continued survival of ferelden. Obviously, one way or another, he was wrong. Loghain did absolutely nothing to unite the different factions that WOULD be useful against the blight. He thought he could win this through a war of attrition, using nothing but ferelden grit and denerim's defenses to hold off against the darkspawn. Instead, Denerim got taken over almost immediately. He, like the king, severely underestimated the blight's sheer mass of troops, not to mention air supremacy. He never truly apologizes for his actions if you recruit him. He only explains his perspective and that he realizes he is a traitor, if I'm not mistaken (it's been years since I last played it). In a way, that's FANTASTIC character writing. The man was devoted to his cause and stuck to his values and beliefs, and was willing to sacrifice the lives of thousands to achieve his goals. He might have come off as a huge prick to us, but perhaps WE are biased? After all, what could 2 grey wardens possibly achieve that duncan and his kind couldn't? What hopes did WE have? Loghain didn't know we were the Protagonist in a videogame. By all known reason, we were doomed if it weren't for plot armor. So while I don't think his actions were entirely justified, they were, at the very least, done with a thought-through intent and a perspective that makes sense. Still, I consider the loghain recruitement to be the bad ending. Allistair becomes depressed and just fades away in some tavern somewhere and loghain gets spared for his treason. If you let him sleep with morrigan HE becomes the hero. That's just NOT what I consider the proper way to end this tale haha.

in this 7 minute we get MORE DARK FANTASY, HORROR, STORY, EMOTIONS, BETTER STORY WRITINGS THAN STORY OF T'RAASH AND HER FRIENDS FROM FAILGUARD
@cyfertea8707 Жыл бұрын
I actually loved both Inquisition and Origins but, I didn't actually have an opinion in what's better because the two games have completely different theme, making them pretty hard to compare for me. Dragon age origins, I love the dark gritty tone, I love the characters, I love the politics and world building, I love the tactics of the game, the roleyplay and backstories of each class and races. Dragon age inquisition it has generic fantasy theme but made use of it well showing the beauty Thedas, I love the Orlesian politics, the mage politics and the Orlesian Mages, a new way to see tevinter through Dorian and to see it as an actual normal nation not a cliche bad guy kingdom, I love the characters as well, and the combat animations, I love how its like in Origins where conversation changes depending on your race and class (unlike mass effect where shepard keeps forgetting that he/she is an biotic). Both have different themes and made well.use of them, the only thing I hated about the two games are: For origins, the combat does get boring later on. Inquisition, it took me days to finish side quests for one map, it's too tedious. I replayed Origins more than inquisition, not because I liked it more, but I don't have to play for days to finish side quests. I hope they change that in inquisition (I doubt it) or have a mod that can allow me to skip side quests.
@irishpatriotv2575 Жыл бұрын
Inquisition is awful, gameplay is a snore fest thanks to all those grindy/repetitive side quests and how empty the world is, armour and clothing design is terrible, the combat makes fighting in DA2 look good, half of the companions are intolerable and Corpyheus is probably the weakest villain in the entirety of DA, which is especially sad when you consider that the Archdemon of Origins doesn't even talk or really have a motive.
@cyfertea8707 Жыл бұрын
@@irishpatriotv2575 I'd agree with the open world (which I think is forced, if the game is a linear rpg like the older Dragon age, I think it would have been way better). The armor system is a bit subjective, since the fan base is divided on that one. Personally tho I prefer the old stat distribution system of DA Origins. I'd disagree with the companions tho, the companions are well written "almost" all the characters are well written for me as well except probably Corypheus. I'd agree with Corypheus tho, personally I'd rather just have the story about the Templar-Mage war than to fight another arch demon. I mean ngl, even tho DA origins archdemon is cool, the thedas politics and history are actually very interesting (at least for me). Heck I'm more interested in the Orlesian civil war, and the templar mages war than the war against Corypheus. It's just Corypheus and the Venatori failed to be a threat. The only real threat the Venatory and Corypheus did is actually their attack on Haven, and the future shown during the mages quest, and after that the Venatory has been outmaneuvered by the Inquisition almost every time. I mean I can't really blame the Venatori, Venatory is filled with zealot cultist or unimportant politicians who just wants some power and some rejected generals who are too unstable to he a proper generals. Now compete that to the Inquisition who has support of the entire Orlesian empire and the Ferelden kingdoms, talented generals and commanders, Political prodigies and even the Queen of Orlais, probably one of the best spymasters in thedas, retired generals who returned to service, and an army trained by Ex templars? Yeah Venatory isn't really going to win that one and that's the problem, they aren't a threat. The final battle is basically the Inquisition mopping out the Venatori with ease, now compare that to (I know this is an unfair comparison) the battle for earth in Mass effect, that was brutal, you can see your own med dying left and right, the desperation of the battle and shows that despite the combined army of the Milky way, they're barely denting the Reaper army, now that is a Threat. Corypheus isn't that, he's just a maker wannabe mage who thinks he's important even tho he's nothing more but a forgotten relic of the past.

@brahmantyoihsan5938 How is deserting your comrades and king and almost getting all of Ferelden killed because he thought the Blight wasn't even real till the last minute responsible?
@brahmantyoihsan5938Ай бұрын
@@mysticwraith6667 The battle was a lost cause. The darkspawn were too many and some of them have managed to find a way behind Cailan's force. There's no guarantee they could reach Cailan in time, and even if they did, many soldiers would die in the process. But for argument's sake, let's say Loghain charge in and kill every darkspawn at Ostagar. What would that accomplish? The Archdemon was absent so the Blight would still continue. Loghain never wanted to kill Cailan. He tried to warn Cailan about the danger, but the king refused to listen. "Loghain, my decision is final. I will stand by the Grey Wardens in this assault." "You risk too much, Cailan. The darkspawn horde is too dangerous for you to be playing hero on the frontline."

Remember the original Bioware only worked in DAO. The other games were made by different teams. That's why the quality decreased so much.

One of the best RPG game. The heyday of game making, when it was still a good thing to be a software developer, has now completely wiped out this profession. The managers get fat on us, and we can barely pay the rent, then they fire us, after the hard work, so there is no loyalty and spirit in today's games, they are only projects in most cases.
