A little girl walked up to an Old British Veteran, who had served from Dunkirk, 1940 to Holland, 1945, she asked him if he had to fight in the war again, would he do it? The Old Veteran smiled and replied in a gentle voice; “For you? Always.” You can’t make this stuff up, we truly were blessed to have such beautiful souls guide our world through such dark and uncertain times.

Might be my favourite monument ever, truly embodies the pointless sacrifices made by the brave men and boys in the 1910s. If only they could have stopped it sooner. The war to end all war, that ended nothing. Rest in peace to all who served.

I wrote about that poem in 8th grade. The year was 2018, 100 years after the battles of the Great war, and I wrote an essay. It will always be the essay I am most proud of. It was on that poem (The Solider), In Flanders Fields, and Dulce et Decorum est. Lest we forget the horrors of that war.

(Flute) I vow to thee, my country, all earthly things above, Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love; The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test, That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best; The love that never falters, the love that pays the price, The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice. (Vocal) And there's another country, I've heard of long ago, Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know; _We may not count her armies, we may not see her King;_ _Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering;_ And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase, _And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace._

The soldier stood and faced God, Which must always come to pass. He hoped his shoes were shining, Just as brightly as his brass. "Step forward now, you soldier, How shall I deal with you? Have you always turned the other cheek? To my Church have you been true?" The soldier squared his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't. Because those of us who carry guns, Can't always be a saint. I've had to work most Sundays, And at times my talk was tough. And sometimes I've been violent, Because the world is awfully rough. But, I never took a penny, That wasn't mine to keep... Though I worked a lot of overtime, When the bills just got too steep. And I never passed a cry for help, Though at times I shook with fear. And sometimes, God, forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears. I know I don't deserve a place, Among the people here. They never wanted me around, Except to calm their fears. If you've a place for me here, Lord, It needn't be so grand. I never expected or had too much, But if you don't, I'll understand." There was a silence all around the throne, Where the saints had often trod. As the soldier waited quietly, For the judgement of his God. "Step forward now, you soldier, You've borne your burdens well. Walk peacefully on Heaven's streets, You've done your time in Hell” “The Final Inspection” -Unknown Author

This is a British patriotic song. Lyrics to the parts that were sung: And there's another country, I've heard of long ago, Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know; We may not count her armies, we may not see her King; Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering; And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase, And her ways are ways of gentleness and all her paths are peace. The "country" refers to Heaven, the "King" refers to God. This song fits perfectly. As the soldiers fighting in the war died, they went the Heaven, hence the part about "soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase". Beautiful song.

I had a great great grandfather who served in the U.S. Army during world war 2. Based off what my grandma told me, he was the sole reason why her and the rest of my family was able to come to America from the Philippines. He was deployed to the beaches of Normandy. He was supposedly killed there as they found his dog tag around the beach, but his body was never identified. He was declared M.I.A. The only way I remember him now is a picture of him and his dog tag in a frame. He was a fighting Filipino. They will always fight for freedom.

For some odd reason, this is what comes to my head. *Perspective on RAF fighters engaged with the German Luftwaffe, British comms* "Gentlemen, once more into the skies. Once more into the fields, once more do we find ourselves fighting for our right to exist as a nation. Alas, the war to end all wars has passed, but do not let that distract you from what it is at the door. Men in France have gone before us and none have come home the same way they left, and the lucky ones faded in the battlefield. But now is not the time to mourn these men, as those who did come home, come to deliver a simple message. Let the message beat into your hearts as I say, "They come in the skies, they come for our home, and they come for the beloved crown. Defend the homeland, please." Defend the land we must, and we shall. We will defend for God, King, and Country *Have this in the mindset of a briefing situation or an intense air battle that you would see in a movie* Sorry if it sounds cringy lol. And when he gets to Heaven, to Saint Peter he will tell: "Just another soldier reporting, Sir. I've served my time in Hell." Lest we forget all those who sadly lost their life's during both WW1 and WW2 from all nations, ethnicities and backgrounds on all sides of the war. You fought for your countries, you fought to stop the conflict but most importantly you fought to ensure a greater future for generations to come and you fought to prevent such an atrocity from ever happening again to ensure that your children and your childrens children would never have to go through/be part of such a horrific event in the future, and for that we are all eternally grateful and thankful. Even though you have sadly gone whilst fighting for your country, for your families and for the future of many generations to come, you will all never ever be forgotten for such efforts, and you will all always remain forever in our hearts ❤️❤️ R.I.P. and God bless to all those who we lost during the wars and other conflicts and battles both past and present, and God bless to those who have lost somebody due to war/conflict, remember that you are not on your own, you never will be as those you have lost will always be watching and looking down to help guide you on the path to your dreams, it's up to you whether you follow that path ❤️ God bless everyone ❤️❤️

_"In the streets and in the pubs, drunk off their minds, they would mock each other until they were blue in the face. But on the field of battle they were brothers in arms. Sons of England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland resting in the mud as heroes"_ No one famous said this, it was the words of an unsung hero who you've never heard of. He was no one significant, he was just another man. Another lad who saw the glimmer and glory in fighting for his nation. I found the writing fading on an old crumbling tombstone in a graveyard in a rural England village while exploring the countryside. The simple yet poetic words of a heroic man from the heart of England. Rest in peace Will J. Owensmith (the name of the soldier on the tombstone). 1923 - 1944.

I realised that this piece brings tears to my eyes not only because I am so proud of my country Britain and the sacrifices of our glorious dead, but also because it almost a melancholic and longing nod to a past where Britons had a right to feel proud, patriotic and emotional without fear of condemnation in this modern and judgemental time. Back when the Union Jack wasn't "a far-right symbol". Back when there was a real sense of what you were defending and fighting for, as you sat there in the trench. Respect to them all. God Save the Queen, long live all our Commonwealth brothers who stayed tied with us. We'll always have your back!

I remember this playing at the festival of remembrance as veterans all came and saluted their fallen comrades followed by a single Dunkirk veteran who Timmy knowledge has now sadly passed away

Idc if this is a British song, as a American Soldier, this made me cry, thinking of all those who went before me, on all sides.

I agree with Video Watcher, it's not the political, national or racial qualities that binds us, it's our love for each other, American, British. We are all beings, we all are brothers in our own ways...

Pvt .joe poucette never saw the snow on the great plains again, this man was my great grandfather who was the only warrior from my reservation to go and fight. This wasn’t our war the elders told him but he didn’t listen, I never understood why he went but one day when the curator takes me home I shall then understand why he went to go and fight in the war in Europe.

Fun Fact: On Playstation this game is featured for ps plus this month so it's for free if you have ps plus so not all hope is lost for this game Update: The month has ended so the game is no longer for free but lots of people play multiplayer and some even storymode still so this means that hope is still not lost.

I bought Battlefield V and finished the single player part, the story didn't touch me too much, but in the epilogue, when the song was rising, I cried like a baby and I don't know why. It seems like I forget something I loved, but my heart still remember...

The emotion you feel when you first open the game, and you are passing from battle to battle, dying each time, and eventually ending this song as it has quotes and stuff trailing by. It is very emotional.

This song is so beautiful for a first person shooter. The kid sounds so innocent and when he sings about heaven's army just makes me tear up every time.
