I love AFI, I really do, they got me into punk, which has been a life long love affair. But burials was the last good album. What alot of band slike AFI dont get, they have emulated danzigs career path. But Danzig did something they havent, He stayed true to his origins even when his style shifted and changed, and eventually went full circle back to the misfits. Which is so awesome. If AFI want to get back to the sing the sorrow praise, They need to do a punk album. A horror punk album. Why does getting older equate getting slower? Look at Discharge, toxic narcotic, shit glenn fucking danzig. These guys are all twice davey and afis age, yet none of them have slowed down, when they go to play faster music, they play with the speed amped up. Why has AFI gone in the opposite direction considering they are about 35 years younger then glenn danzig. Im willing to bet money had AFI continued what they were doing after black sails and sing the sorrow, the band would of never had a bad album. The only reason the songs after have been forgettable outside of burials, is because they lack the same brutality of art of drowning, and their best stuff. If you have to revisit previous music to get people hyped it means you arent doing it with your new stuff. So you have to view what you are doing through the eyes of you at that time. If I was in AFI, and wanted to be consistent, every song would of been hard or faster then the last. Fast determine quality by the speed and weight of an album. Old afi was heavy. New AFI isnt, its that simple. And its not rocket science on how to improve it. Go back and rerecord all of AFIS songs after sing the sorrow, but with hard core punk licks. And I guarantee every song would be a tottally banger fuckin hit. AFI did it to themselves. They are trying to relive the past with blood or whatever it was called. When you dont have to. You can be new, but stay true to your core. Look at toto, they did a new album 34 years after 1989, and they are still writing amazing music. Want to know why? Old is new. They wrote the album as if they were writing it in the 80s. AFI, needs to write their new stuff how they would of written it back in the day. Then older ideas, and mediocre ideas, can feel new and cool again. AFI has become somewhat uncool when they are playing their new music. BEcause even they know the old stuff is what matters. So make the new stuff matter but going back and writing hard hitting horror punk, but with better production quality. But revist that time of afi, when they were fast, where the two back to back albums art of drowning and black sails had that brutal horror punk art. They could do it again. They just have to stop listening to whoever is telling them to slow down, or is tired of playing punk. and i have a feeling its not jade davey or adam. Bring back the art of drowning days. Shit they could even change a bit of their sound, to doing art of drowning, but harder and closer to danzig style metal. PRetty much they should make the album misfits would make today if glenn decided he wanted to write some new songs. Glenn didnt like earth AD, and its the reason he quit. Till he saw how iconic EARTH AD became during their reunion shows. You can see it on his face. That the hardest hitting misfits songs, held up just as well as everything else. and in fact earth AD, influenced how the other songs ar eplayed live today. AFI needs that revelation. and I think it came with the sing the sorrow anniversary show. Fans, literally have never forgotten and its still their most beloved commercial album. YEt they have no desire to go back musically only aesthetically. and aesthetics can only take you so far. DAVEY IF YOU SEE THIS, Fans need a new art of drowning. Go baack. Go bacck to the beginning. and mix old with new. DO A HARDCORE HORROR PUNK THEMED ALBUM AGAIN.

Dude, AFI was never horror punk, sure davey had the image with the black clothes and devillock but nane one album or one song that was horror punk. Glenn Danzig fell waaaaaay off after danzig 4, you just contradicted yourself right there. Danzig shifted his sound heavily from blues influenced rock/heavy rock and went full on industrial and even nu metsl influences. His new output is poorly produced and his voice is shot to shut and he has no power in his voice. How did afi emulate Danzigs career? In what way shape or form besides davey having Danzigs look for a bit? Davey never left afi to form another band or go solo. He has side projects yes but afi has always been there. Glenn left the misfits and never looked back only until recently with reunions. So I don’t and where that comparison came from And as far as Toto goes they’ve put out music consistently, there was never any 34 year gap. So idk where you got that from. There are certainly new heavy afi songs, you’re equating speed for being heavy. Look at slayers album south of heaven. Was a pretty slow album but it’s still very much heavy. That is the reason heavy music falls by the wayside so much because it’s the same shit over and over. Changing up the sound keeps a band fresh and in its ties musically. That’s be like eating cake everyday for lunch, it just gets old and you’d get sick of it. There is nothing wrong with a change of pace. Even discharge changed it’s sound over time from punk to heavy metal so you’re arguments that everybody you listed stayed the same is pretty contradictory.
